Why the late George H.W. Bush is the most underrated great US president

3 “For the 28 years that he served as chancellor of Germany, Bismarck preserved what he had built by a restrained and wise diplomacy, which was the single most important element in maintaining the peace of Europe.” – Henry Kissinger Some people complain I never have a good word to say about the United States. That’s not quite true. I am sure if I dig deep enough, I can find a piece or two from a daily column that spans more than a decade where I said something nice. But today, I will change tracks: George H.W. Bush, the 41st US president. The more I read about him, the more it seems to me he has been the most underrated president of the last century. Sadly, that tends to be the fate of one-term presidents.

No Barf Alert?

As far as being a good vice president, anyone can do that. Pence was a pretty good vice president. That is in no way historic. Bush the First started a war in Iraq which carried on through Clinton years and all the way into Bush 2 years. He put us in Somalia on his way out the door. He compromised with Democrats in a bipartisan way which always means good for Democrats and raised taxes.

Maybe after he has passed we might polish the turd of his presidency.

“Actually Bush 1 was not a nice person. To those who worked for him, he was a rude, arrogant, mean spirited and demeaning individual. More like the stupid and lazy NCO I once had for a supervisor than a decent person.”

Bummer, I guess that I had him wrong! I’m only good from what I hear and process...but yea, I can see that being the case too.

Sucks too - he was in a PERFECT POSITION to bring Russia into the West, so that we could all deal with China, but now that’s gone. We’ll have to deal with Russia and China and we’re in no position for that.

This article, from Wee Too Lo or Egg Fu Yung On Face or whatever his inscrutable name is, anyone who namechecks James Baker as some vanguard of golden era of Westernism, or 'restrained diplomacy', needs to be gathered up by one of Xi's 100 global police outposts and disappeared.

Baker was House of Saud, period, tasked with keeping the price of oil at whatever Faud demanded, and not only that, but maintain a level petrodollar as the sole currency, without a care to how that compromised Joe Sixpack's morbidly stagnant wages.

"People could argue till kingdom come whether Bush Snr and his secretary of state James Baker ever promised Mikhail Gorbachev that there would be no Nato expansion across eastern Europe towards the Russian borders. That was supposedly in exchange for the Soviet leader’s consent for German reunification. Historians may eventually be able to tell us conclusively one way or another."

“New accuser says George H.W. Bush groped her while he was president”

We dealt with that towards the end of GHW Bush...and it appears that the Leftists were right, in this case, he had some ‘issues’, when it came to hot chicks.

The full story of chichijima didn’t come out till 2004. And HWB was always haunted by his decision not to turn back to be with his crew. At least according to his biography.

I Remember this Bush for promoting defeat in Iraq. Under him, Iraqi Arabs revolted with U.S. encouragement to be then abandoned as Hussein’s forces murdered many tens of thousands during their successful campaign of repression and retribution. This Bush made a speech hoping to incite a military coup to topple Hussein by saying, “There is another way for the bloodshed to stop and that is for the Iraqi military and people to take matters into their own hands and force Saddam Hussein, the dictator to step aside and then comply with the United Nations resolutions and rejoin the family of peace-loving nations”. As former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency he knew that such information should have been transmitted covertly to a selected few.

This probably sealed the fate of a unified Iraqi government because this deception and inaction was so egregious it overcame millennia of animosity between the Semites of Assyria/Iraq and the Caucasians/Aryans of Persia/Iran. The abandonment of the “Swamp Arabs” by him in their hour of crisis evoked a deathless memory which crippled subsequent efforts. Had the United States never promoted the revolt or behaved with integrity when it did sponsor it, then Muqtada al-Sadr would have never had a forum to become one of the most influential religious and political figures in Iraq, despite not holding an official title.

This act of intellectual dwarfism leading to negligent homicide reminds me of the Warsaw Uprising. The Polish Resistance rose at Joseph Stalin’s encouragement as the Red Army closed in on Warsaw. The army then stopped as the Germans regrouped and demolished the city in the next two months. The Nazis inflicted nearly 200,000 casualties in defeating resistance fighters and slaughtering civilians mainly by mass execution.

Therefore, Bush accomplished through negligent homicide the same result Stalin achieved by premediated murder. In both cases individuals who could have been vital in the effort to establish a new government were eliminated.

Yep...G.H.W. Bush-41 was a nice guy...And as every Rat knows, Leo Durocher was correct (at least with respect to politics): “Nice guys finish last.”

Dubya had speed dial access to his father. Are they trying to convince us that Dubya never consulted his father at all? I find that notion to be hard to even contemplate, let alone accept.

I blame him for not enforcing border security that we were supposed to get in 1986. Illegal immigration increased bigly during his administration.
