One of the nation’s most prestigious academic institutions is urging its students to avoid using the term “American.”
Yet it’s not the first time Stanford or other institutions have altered language policies to reflect the political or cultural climate. Here's a list of seven other times political, religious, educational and government entities have tried to strip certain words or gendered language from our lexicon.
1. Stanford University bans the word American
After launching its Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative (EHLI) in May, Stanford University published a list of “harmful language” that it plans to remove from all Stanford websites and other coding.
As a substitute for “American,” students, faculty and staff are urged to use the term “U.S. citizen” to avoid “insinuating that the U.S. is the most important country in the Americas."
2. Stanford University orders faculty to use gender-specific pronouns
In 2016, the elite California university faced controversy after it ordered faculty at a computer science workshop to use "they" and "their/them" as a singular pronoun.
With the stated goal of creating an “inclusive community,” the guidelines compiled by professor Cynthia Bailey Lee pushed for the revised pronoun use as a “neutral alternative” that works “better than the awkward 'he or she' construction because it also includes genderqueer and nonbinary.”
3. National Archives adds warning alert to the U.S. Constitution
When the U.S. National Archives Records Association (NARA) first introduced a “harmful language” alert on its website for the U.S. Constitution, some conservative commentators were stunned by the move.
Since then, NARA has clarified that the alert is a blanket notice that applies to other historical documents in its database and is “not connected to any specific records.”

DemocRATS love to divide, divide, divide. They just love finding more and more ways to divide us up, and then pit one group against another. They are, after all, the party of segregation and the KKK.
Stanford University, while touting and celebrating ‘diversity’ has developed segregated housing: Ujamaa House is for African-American; Okada House is for Asians; Casa Zapata is for Chicanx and Latinx (99% of Spanish speakers do not like the new Latinx phraseology, and they do not speak Latin either).
The Stanford University website explains: “”Our ethnic theme communities have a rich and long history of engaging students at the highest levels of intellectual discovery and advancing diversity””
‘Advancing diversity’ by segregation. Sounds right out of 1984.
Once the caucasoid race has been sufficiently denigrated, diminished, etc, they will divide up further, into sub-sub-groups. I remember when Zimmerman VS Trayvon exploded, and for the first time I heard the term White-Hispanic. University of California developed an Asian-White category because too many Asians were admitted to the various UCs around the State. The Asians were succeeding at the same level, or even higher, than the evil Caucasians. Heck, the word Asian is PART OF the word Caucasian, CaucASIAN, so there must be some contamination, and therefore we must correct enough to achieve ‘equity.’ I remember the ultimate race hustler, shakedown artist, and divider Jessie Jackson rioting and protesting for, not just equity of admissions, but equity of outcomes. In other words, the percentage and quota of diplomas had to equal admissions. You must award a diploma according to race, not achievement. In order to accomplish this, you will need to make sure that they pass enough courses. Whether or not they have mastered the course material is, well, immaterial. You gave Whitey and Asian-Whitey a diploma, you must give others the same diploma. I can just see Jackson and his ilk issuing subpoenas for college transcripts, comparing by race, and then demanding his classic shakedown fee to prevent protests and riots. The fee was often $250,000 to one of Jackson’s many nonprofits, and a hidden fee for himself. He eventually shook down enough places to build all his mansions, horse farms, and baby mommas.
Speaking of baby mommas, another unforgettable moment was Jackson ‘counseling’ Clinton during Clinton’s Monica ‘troubles.’ There is a photo from that time, with Clinton, Jackson, and a very pregnant woman by a swimming pool. What is definitely NOT in the caption is the very pregnant woman beside Jackson. She is not his wife. Lovely, just lovely.
This and racist and antisemitic discrimination destroying this world- class college from within.
Denying financial aid based on being the “wrong” race
Denying admissions based on being the “wrong” religious denomination

Stanford and other universities MUST get out of the language-police business, and go back to scholarship!!!!
The official name of our country is “The United States of America”. Hence we are Americans!!!!
They are probably paying a half dozen or more, “faculty”, several hundred thousand dollars each, to come up with this crap.
This is an old argument. We used to hear it from all the Venezuelan kids at my school in Caracas, they said, “we live in America too, South America.” It was silly then, it’s silly now.
