Romney voices support for carbon tax to combat climate change
Washington Examiner via MSN ^ | December 8, 2022 | by Brady Knox, Misty Severi

At a Washington Post webinar on Thursday, Romney spoke about the necessity of fighting climate change. In his view, the most useful tool would be a carbon tax, which would push the private sector to innovate towards clean energy.

“The folks at MIT, as you probably know, built a model saying, 'Okay, what things that we do, will actually reduce emissions, reduce temperatures or hold temperatures from going up as fast as they have it. What can we do?' And the number one thing, and frankly, the only thing that had a major impact was having a price on carbon, the carbon tax either through or through a whole series of mechanisms, but a carbon tax or some kind of price on carbon with border adjustment taxes. That's the only thing that has a significant impact,” Romney said.

“I would note that a price on carbon is a way of not just raising money for the government. That's not the purpose of it," he went on to explain. "The price the reason for putting a price on carbon is to create a massive incentive for the private sector to innovate and to create innovations. Which will be low emitting, and low cost, and therefore will be adopted not just here, but adopted voluntarily in India and Brazil and China. That's what we have to do do things that get accepted globally."

He went on to criticize the Democrats' approach to climate change, saying they pursue policies that "sounds good, but won't make a difference." Particularly, spending money on insulating buildings and buying electric cars is ineffective in the long term, he argued, as CO2 emissions will still go up globally.

"We have to do things that will be adopted everywhere. Not just things that make us feel better about ourselves.”

Carbon tax my ass. We need a politician tax. Tax the voters for the dumbasses they elect over and over. Then we need a freeloader tax on all of the “reparations” the pedoresident is giving to freeloaders all over the planet.

Shut up, Romney, you ignorant poser.

Do you want to really cut back on “emissions?” Well, here ya go: first, put us back on sound money. When interest rates are higher, debt-driven expansion and emissions go down. Second, change our tax system to taxes on consumption — that is, when people save or invest their money, rather than buy stuff, they don’t get taxed on it. Less stuff is bought, conservation is achieved, and emissions go down. Such a system is also useful in that it allows for tariffs on goods from the world’s bad actors.

Other than that, shut up, resign and make yourself so obscure that you’re never heard from again.

I happen to be supportive of the Repukes in the Senate not holding power. Primary them all even if it means losing 5-7 seats. Long term it’s a major win to be rid of these people

So is Mitt the Twit is going to give up flying every where he goes and take an electric powered Greyhound bus that will have to be recharged every 300 miles just so he can help “save the planet”?

Does Utah have ranked choice voting? Or is it normal and American?

My understanding is they are working on it.

It amazes me that our systems and culture have become so dysfunctional that people like Romney and Biden can actually become nominees for President.

330,000,000 people and these buffoons are what the system comes up with?
We are truly in decline and entering a dark age.

Primary them all, and if the minority leader (Turtle) wins his next primary*, simply don’t vote for him. Just leave the ballot blank. Vote for the others, no matter who wins the primaries. The Dems are Communists.

Treat McCarthy and the rest of the House, respectively, likewise.

*Does anybody really think that POS will retire? He will eventually leave the Senate in a box, after succumbing to one of the usual old-age problems.

I respect you, but the Dems are on the cusp of ending this country as we know it. If I had to vote for Benedict Arnold to stop or slow down the Dems, I would.
