A state of emergency has been declared after the electrical power grid was “intentionally attacked” causing a major power outage in Moore County.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office confirmed those details in a news conference Sunday evening.
More than 34,000 people in Moore County are still without power. The outages began just after 8 p.m. Saturday night across communities in the area, according to Sheriff Ronnie Fields.
Sheriff Fields said firearms were used to shoot and disable equipment at two substations in Moore County.
Power could be out until Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office and Duke Energy officials. Duke officials added that the repairs will need to be sophisticated due to how damaged the substations were.
In the news conference, deputies said the FBI is assisting with the investigation, as well as the state Bureau of Investigation.
“The NC Department of Public Safety is working with our local and federal law enforcement partners and will provide the appropriate state resources needed to assist in this investigation,” NCDPS Secretary Eddie M. Buffaloe, Jr. said.
When asked whether this was domestic terrorism, Sheriff Fields said he couldn’t say whether this was domestic terrorism or not, saying he would leave that for the feds to determine. But he added it was absolutely intentional and the perpetrators knew what they were doing.

Deputies also announced that a curfew has been set for Moore County. It begins at 9 p.m. and will continue until 5 a.m.

I’ve heard that as well. My money is on a certain three letter agency being involved, who may, or may not be tasked with “investigating” it.
And those are more of a “off the shelf” item they keep stocked, not the custom/more rare kind used at substations. They usually keep a certain number on had to replace current equipment that fails and if they don’t have enough spares they won’t install new services.
Bump for tomorrow
“..Terrorists or ... ummmmm ... employees of a certain three-letter “bureau”? ...”
Is that a redundant sentence or what?.....LOL.
The answer is: “yes”.
“..It’s getting harder to tell the difference between AuntyFag, BurnLootMurder, and the Feebs....”
Huh? There is none. They all work for the same diaper-wrapped cup drooler.
Deer hunters with poorly zeroed scopes.
“..I was 35 years in the industry. A lot of my time was dealing with system reliability assessment and planning. The most critical part of the electrical grid are the substations, particularly those on the bulk transmission system (138kV and above). That equipment, particularly transformers, is made to order and not normally on someone’s shelf. Lead times for such equipment is in multiples of months. I always felt that hardening substations against the random drive-by or intentional shooting was relatively inexpensive and easily done....”
Exactly. And you’re right on about the big, high-voltage transformers. They’re not off the shelf items and have to be custom-built.
I also worked in the power industry for quite awhile myself before moving over to more lucrative oil/gas opportunities. We lost a 23KV step-up to 230KV at one of the big generating plants. The lead time for new replacement was well over a year and three times the original cost. Fortunately, we found a used one that would work from a cancelled nuclear project. Had it high-potted/tested and delivered asap....even then, it still took over a month to get back on line.
As you stated, the sub-stations can be hardened, but the bulk high-voltage transmission lines and towers are also vulnerable. Thousands of miles of high-voltage transmission line and the associated towers are gonna be pretty difficult, if not impossible, to protect.
Liberals destroy everything they touch....EVERYTHING.
Remember those trillions of Obamadollars “Sheriff Joe” was overseeing to “rebuild America’s crumbling infrastructure?” I wonder where all that went?
People talk about “domestic terrorism.” Morons… we’re inviting more and more terrorists in every day, by the thousands.
Day of Wrath
Read it.
Oh boy, the fbi is involved. I guess they will find their first white man to blame for this even if he did not do it. Sort of like Richard Jewel.
The fbi is the enemy.
Moore County is a quiet, conservative area in the NC sandhills, a golf haven with Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Whispering Pines.
Unreal, NN. And without warning. No time to prepare.
Just details a person with bad intent could use.
I don’t think his intentions were nefarious.
Supposedly it’s going to be spent now and for some time.
Of course there’s certainly tons of waste and kickbacks…
hmmm...”someone” appears to have known exactly what to do...and prolly intended to physically invade a property that was otherwise “well-secured”...mebbe to scarf up a server or sumpin’
Sounds like the FIB needs a distraction?
Care to take bets on whether the perps have ties to the FBI?
Okay, then perhaps it was to teach those Conservatives a
thing or two. What judge these days couldn’t understand
that. /s
