It wasn't about abortion: How much of a role did the Dobbs decision on abortion rights really play in this election?

By Thanksgiving we'll have a GOP House majority. By mid-December, we may have a GOP 51-49 Senate majority or another 50-50 situation. Not a bad wave if it turns out that way.

How much of a role did abortion play in this election? The Democrats want you to think that it was the dam that stopped the red wave. It really wasn't, as Catherine Glenn Foster wrote:

If anything was less impressive on election night than the “red wave,” it was the abortion wave. Blue states protected abortion rights as expected, but public officials who supported or enforced limits on abortion in nearly 20 red states were re-elected.

Americans have learned since June that the U.S. Supreme Court didn’t make abortion illegal in the Dobbs decision. Instead, after decades of jurisprudence that effectively taught Americans to embrace abortion, the Court made abortion an issue for voters, for Congress, and for states.

Since June, the states have been actively forming their own policy. California, New York, and Illinois have maintained their policy of abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy, while a dozen other states have moved in various ways to abolish abortion or embrace pain-capable or similar protections.

Yet, since June, there has been a political, financial, and media onslaught to repudiate the Dobbs decision by denouncing officials who enforced state laws and running hard against Republicans who support abortion abolition or simply limits to the killing. A reported $500 million have been spent attacking Republicans who supported pro-life law and policy. Abortion was an election issue in virtually every state’s elections because Democrats made it an issue with their ads.

The first national election after the Court overruled Roe was destined to be raucous, but the issue has fizzled in many states for abortion activists.

Again, the abortion issue did not stop red waves in Texas, Florida, or Ohio. It may have helped candidates in blue states, although in most of those places Roe has been replaced by a local version of Roe.

We've seen the last hurrah for abortion. By the next election, most states will have their own abortion laws. Voters will be able to keep them, change them, or amend them.

It had everything to do with the Midwest and East…the Dems spent over 800 million dollars on abortion related advertising. It won’t be as much of a factor going forward. But honestly pro life life groups have some responsibility in this after Dobbs was overturned they spent very little on pro life candidates.
Case and point in Michigan Tudor Dixon was outspent 66 million to 4 and almost all of Whitmers ads where tied to abortion

It was about DNC-organized targeted ballot fraud, just like 2020 was, and like Gore attempted to pull off in 2000.

As much as I regret this fact it seems pretty certain that Trump is viscerally hated by a huge number of women and they vote. People with the Trump recommendation did not do that well. DeSantis did. I wish it weren’t so but I see no logical alternative

Cheating, cheating, cheating. Everybody on our side knows it happened, but we’re still trying to rationalize how we screwed up. It was Trump. It was the Dobbs decision. It was the lack of quality candidates, etc. etc. etc. The RATS stole another national election. End of story.

They ALL had an abortion law before Roe. The Feds overstepped their powers.

And at one time...Abortion was illegal in every state. And that's the way it should be.

Abortion is murder...period.

Abortion and Supreme Court was not the issue, Republicans who can’t defend their abortion position is.

IF you can’t defend a 15-week abortion ban versus abortions up to one minute before birth then you deserve to lose.

One is a reasonable compromise, and one is infanticide, you’re in the wrong profession if that’s an issue for you.

Not Surprising, Michigan Republicans are all old and all their children have become indoctrinated.

Its going to be a blue state for a long time because Republicans sat for a generation on teaching people.

The decision, and the following malicious idiocy from Graham in SC, did cause some issue in the election, but it was not the impact the Democrats and GOPe wanted.

The beneficial side effect for us is that abortion is done as a serious campaign subject. In two more years of a world without Roe v Wade, people will care even less than they did in this election. Two more years of Biden and his people breaking their promises, like student loan debt relief, to their idiotic "brownshirt" single female contingent.

If true conservatives had been in leadership of the GOP we would have handled the abortion message better. Even with McConnell and Graham trying their best to commit suicide with it, it fizzled.

49 years of fear about confronting a subject the majority of Americans never agreed with. The lesson for true conservatives? Stand for your principles and tell the people what they are. Fight for them against all odds. The results will astound.

I don’t think the abortion issue was important at all. They’re just using that to try to justify the RAT steal.

In some states that would be okay, overall, that will never happen, especially if you tried to do that on a Federal Level.

Anyone who still supports the Democrats has a criminal heart.

No one wants to believe that we have millions of Americans with criminal hearts, but we do.

Agree. The slow roll counting the ballots is a deliberate act to manipulate the count in the DIMs favor and they are blatantly flaunting this in our face. Based on the sad state of the nation there is no way the elections would be this close or in favor of the DIMs. The mail-in ballot is the DIMs mechanism for manipulation.

Woke libtards are butthurt about everything by nature. If it wasn’t their blood thirsty desire to kill unborn babies it would be something else. Cross-dressing, wipipo privilege, gay something or other, more gov in our pockets, TDS, tree hugging, whatever, it never ends, it’s always something ... they always have to have a an anti-human cause and they exist in this universe to-be unhappy and pissed-off at something.
