The electric school bus revolution has begun — here’s how we keep it going

As the U.S. government rolls out an array of climate measures included in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), electric school buses have emerged as one of the low-hanging fruits. They can immediately improve health for children and communities, while expediting the broader transition to electric vehicles — a crucial step in preventing the worst impacts of climate change. That’s why it is great news that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just announced nearly $1 billion in rebate awards to 389 school districts. A full 95 percent of the buses funded will be electric school buses. Now, every state is part of the electric school bus revolution, alongside Washington, D.C., territories and tribal nations.

Back in the era before Nashville, Tennessee merged with Davidson County and became Metropolitan Nashville, the city schools had no busses. Now that was a lot greener than today’s idiotic zones and fleets of busses no matter how the busses are powered.

Students got to school by walking or riding a bike, (neighborhood schools), taking a city bus, or being taken to school in a car but it was very often a “hookup” (carpool) of parents rotating driving responsibilities for two, three, or four families. Back then there were low crime rates, many stay-at-home mothers, a less-spoiled generation of children. In that era too, there were lots of frequent city bus routes. Yes, it is a bygone era but any way you slice it, it was much better for the environment than today’s expensive plans.

Alaska:The bus ran through the roads even at -40 °F in the town of Tok, Alaska. This bus is Alaska’s first and, at the moment, only all-electric school bus, since October 2020. On one charge, the bus can cover 138 miles (222 km). On a daily basis, the vehicle can cover 30 miles (48 km)."

throwing away taxpayer money on programs that don’t work to fix a problem that doesn’t exist.

But it will never end as long as Deep State politicians can get their skim and kickbacks.

I remember those days. That was before all the Yankees and Californians and Illegals moved in.

“We” think it’s goofy.

Deadly, for kids. You can't evacuate a burning bus fast enough to save all the kids. Especially if the bus is moving along a road. When I was in elementary school, I got bussed for one year, on the freeway between schools. Too dangerous to pull over on a freeway and attempt to evacuate kids on a crowded freeway with railings on both sides.

Here is a spec sheet from one EV school bus manufacturer to give and idea of various configurations and ranges. I suspect the ranges are for ideal conditions.

Because there are no real problems in the world to solve, let's focus on things lunatic Democrats find trendy.

The best thing these clowns can do for the planet is small one room schools popping up where they are needed.
