A suspect is accused of attacking a 66-year-old man who was targeting during a robbery in Queens on Thursday as residents continued suffering under the crime wave.
Police said that just after 1:00 p.m. the victim was walking down 71st street in Middle Village when the incident occurred, Fox 5 reported Saturday.

If he was targeted, someone tipped someone off to the fact that the guy was carrying a load of cash. Bank teller?
Who carries around $17k on them without an armored car?

Good point. It’s odd that there is no mention as to why the victim was carrying $17K on him. You’d think a reporter would have been curious about that.
An immigrant is my guess. Many don’t trust banks, lack language skills or ID. These guys prolly attacked someone from their own community.
This whole story looks like some shameless scam Frank Gallagher made up.
Indeed no one should be targeted and these crooks should have been eliminated. But howmdoes one carry around $17k of valuables? A watch maybe? Jewelry?
That is crazy. Especially unarmed.
A couple weeks ago my wife and I withdrew $4K in cash from our bank. As we walked away, I had pepper spray in one hand and my knife in another hand in my pocket, and we watched for suspicious people in the area. We ask the teller to be discrete, but some aren't so we hope no one malicious listens in. We won't pull more than $5K at a time, that's asking for trouble.

DeBlasio Warren Wilhelm really got this latest ball rolling.
My wife won a few thousand dollars on a slot machine in Las Vegas some years ago. She got a hand pay and the casino people insisted on walking us to our car, they gave us no choice in the matter. I thought at first they were kicking us out because they didn’t want us winning on another machine in their casino but most likely they did not want to be responsible for us getting mugged in their parking lot. Winning a large jackpot makes you very visible.
Carried around too much money....
I would have devoted a little cash to an armed guard and kevlar vest.
And this means the “cashless society” is not here yet.
In a sane state he would have had a pistol in his pocket.
AND, who walks around with $17k in cash. A check is your friend.
The best deals on used vehicles are made with cash.
When doing such deals I am armed and the person with me is armed.
We make arrangements to meet in public places.
Haven’t hand any trouble but then I don’t live in or near big crime ridden cities.
I took a minute to overthink this. My conclusion: this wasn’t anything but a coverup for loosing $17,000. Sixty-six year olds are pretty competent.
Most likely.
