Herschel Walker, the GOP nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, said people who are worried about the high cost of insulin should “eat right” in his only debate against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) on Friday.
During an exchange about the economy and the high cost of living, Warnock touted his work passing legislation lowering prescription drug prices, including a $35 cap on monthly insulin costs. He noted that Walker had opposed the law, which is called the Inflation Reduction Act.
Walker responded by saying the Inflation Reduction Act had not reduced inflation. Then he argued that people who need insulin should think about eating better.
“I believe in reducing insulin but at the same time, you gotta eat right. I know many people that’s on insulin. Unless you’re eating right, insulin is doing you no good. So you have to get food prices down and you gotta get gas down so you can go get insulin,” the GOP candidate said.

B12 is another factor in this and eating right doesn’t help me in terms of that issue.
I have got some really messed up DNA. Apparently MMA can accumulate in the B12 process and cause insulin resistance.
I had a Dr just throw metformin at the fasting glucose issue but it appears I only have a problem in the morning called dawn effect and the rest of the time I am okay.
I am confounded on how to solve a myriad of issues that are above the typical solutions.
I am shocked everyday at how much Drs don’t know that they should know..
If you are on metformin be sure to have your B12 checked
Mayo clinic has a great article on B12 from some European doctors.
If your B12 is below 400 but above 200 don’t let your Dr blow it off
Sometimes you just gotta let dumb be dumb. 😐
I think the cost of insulin is a campaign issue but it has to be thought through. Walker is running against a horrible candidate but the race is close and it is now October. Walker is showing s lot of ignorance of the issue. Type I diabetics are insulin dependent. They are diagnosed early in life by - in general- caring parents who get them diagnosed and then support healthy coping.
They have to live with the fear of going into a coma and not being found, of limb loss, kidney failure, blindness, among other horrors. They do not resemble the overweight diebetes II people
To tell them to just eat right in order to allay the cost of a drug from the pharmaceutical industry which has hundreds of billions of dollars is a bad campaign position.
Also if you have insulin problems look up dragon fruit.
In the US it is expensive but you could try the frozen kind.
While diabetes is serious, I’m not seeing diabetes as a serious issue in this election. Warnock vs. Walker, dem control of the senate, etc, and we’re talking about semantics of diabetes?
I mean, really?
But which Trump and others deny happening.
Stay in your lane, Herschel. We are only weeks away from the finish line.
You’re not expected to be all knowing.
“While diabetes is serious, I’m not seeing diabetes as a serious issue in this election. Warnock vs. Walker, dem control of the senate, etc, and we’re talking about semantics of diabetes?

It’s not only random and non winning, it’s the kind of item that the media loves to capitalize on
It’s really dumb
As a person with Type 2 diabetes I agree with him. I have to eat right and watch my carbs.
I had severe/acute pancreatitis, which required 14 ERCP Endoscopies to drain the pseudo-cyst crushing my inflamed stomach, and pancreas was also inflamed.
No food for 23 days, port in left neck vein for micro-nutrients, port in right neck vein for saline solution, 3 IVs w/ antibiotics in arms. I went from 265 lbs to 134 lbs, lost 131 lbs in 23 days. The also found AFIB, stage 2 mild kidney disease, peripheral neuropathy in both feet. I had 5 stents put into heart artery bundle. I cut out all sugars, many carbs, salt, but still smoke under 10 Marlboros a day.
My pancreas works now, so Metformin and Jardiance keep my BSL (Blood Sugar Level) around 80-115. Endocrinologist Doc says stay under 150 level.
The Novolog (3x/day) was a hammer, while the Lantus at night (1x/day) was easy to tolerate.
I went from Type 1 to Type 2 in ~2yrs. I’m maintaining weight at 150 lbs, even with occasional sugar-free candy (expensive) and some cereals, but I watch everything carefully, and read every label. I’m now stable at Type 2.
“Maybe someone can answer this question for me. Didn’t Trump have a program that drastically reduced the cost of insulin? I also remember hearing that Biden cancelled it through executive order within days after taking office”
My recollection is similar. Trump definitely had a plan to reduce the cost of insulin and it was foiled either by the Democrat House he had in his second term or by Biden.
The problem is insulting people while not understanding. It’s OK to no understand every single thing out there, it’s a big complicated world. But don’t use your lack of understanding to devalue people. Because ALL issues are complicated. There’s very little black and white out there. Take 2 of your examples: tax reform and police funding. Tax reform can take many forms, most of which are really “reform” and don’t actually do anything but make more loopholes. And police funding could be good stuff like more cops on the beat, or bad stuff like more military equipment for SWAT. If he can’t understand the rather basic concept that not all diabetes is diet related do you think he’s really going to understand the tax code and know whether or not a reform bill is REALLY reform and not loopholes for GM?
“But which Trump and others deny happening.”
Trump and others do not deny that Biden sits in the White.
Trump and the majority of Americans say Biden’s handlers stole the election.
Walker is merely playing the political game. Why would Walker hand the democrats a sword they can behead him with?
I see we have a brain dead lib.
Nice...
Another leftist on the thread.
Good to know..
Nope. Another person who can THINK and knows that the letter after a person’s name don’t mean #$%^.
You racist?
So you like Warnock?
Yes. And Walker. They both suck. And that’s what I dislike most, a crappy 2 party system that gives voter choices between which kind of crappy candidate to vote for. Do you want the sour milk or the spoiled meat?
The answer is getting better people to actually want to run for office, and put up with all the BS that comes with it.
