Cornered like a rat, Vladimir Putin is more dangerous than ever, warns Russia expert
THE DAILY MAIL ^ | 10 October 2022 | PROFESSOR MARK GALEOTTI

Posted on 10/10/2022 8:03:02 PM PDT by dennisw

The horrifying attacks on Ukraine yesterday– are a sign that the Russian president is, if not yet desperate, getting nearer to it.

They represent a highly significant psychological shift for the beleaguered leader. He is no longer trying to win the war: now he is simply trying not to visibly lose it.

Previously he could have defined victory however he wanted. But by annexing Ukrainian regions, he has upped the already high stakes. If he cedes so-called ‘Russian’ territory, he will become the Tsar who gave away Russian land instead of the strongman who restored the empire.

And by ordering partial mobilisation on September 21 he ensured the war now touches every Russian family. Putin has made the catastrophic mistake of calling his own bluff.

He realises he is fighting for his political life and, as we have seen before, he is ready to sacrifice countless lives at the altar of his own ambition. In 2000 he let 118 men die on the stricken Kursk submarine rather than accept help from the West to rescue them.

Now he is prepared to accept appallingly high casualties among the ill-trained conscripts he has sent to Ukraine.

The Russian army has been revealed as shoddy, incompetent and ill equipped. Money that should have been spent on maintenance was siphoned off. Meanwhile the Ukrainian army, equipped with 21st century weaponry by the West, and highly skilled partly thanks to British training, has inspired awe with its indomitable spirit.

Battlefield failure reflects badly on Putin personally because he has built himself up as a warrior president. Some years ago, I met a group of Russian officers who, after alcohol had lubricated tongues, were scathing about Putin’s military pretensions. ‘I wouldn’t want a virgin telling me what to do on my wedding night,’ one said.

The members of the Worship George Soros church, The menbers of the Worship Joe Biden Brigade will not stand fot it. Because it will mean that the Bidens will not continure to receive their dirty money from Ukraine. Nor will Fauci’s bio labs in Ukraine be able to cultivate their deadly pathogens and distribute them in the U.S. and World Wide. It is not happening. The Worship Soros and Worship Biden Cabal on Free Republic.com is too powerful. There is too much dirty money for their gods, George Soros and Joe Biden to make.

Sorry didn’t mean you personally, just everyone in general. The world seems to be itching for another great war.

Agree on the mismanagement all around, and sometimes wonder if it is on purpose, to get another world war going.

buwaya... that is some revisionist history you are pushing there... you are ignoring the color revolution in 2014. 2019 is a cats meow... the deed was done... by western self appointed elites... they took out the guy that Putin installed in Ukraine... Putin’s guy.. rigged for Putin.. yes of course. Regardless, everyone is lying... everyone. And the truth actually will work for the rest of the world... But it will destroy our self appointed elites... So the world will suffer while our elites lie... and we might actually have a nuclear war... just so self appointed elites like Lyndsey Graham aren’t exposed.

Good post. Rather than try to end the war, Washington is doing all it can to prolong it and make the whole situation more dangerous and more and more likely to escalate out of control.

Yea I am afraid you are right. Seems everyone has forgotten what total war, with real powers looks like.

Imagine the difference of lives lost (total civilian and troop losses) between WWI and WWII and then extrapolate for WWIII.

God help us all……

Just noting that Zelensky is well post-2014, as a politician.
Thats not revisionist.
And that if you have a beef with the way 2014 went down, there were two elections after that. The will of the people was clearly expressed.

As far as legitimacy goes, it does not matter what Lindsay Graham or Joe Biden say, its what the Ukrainians say that counts. Ukraines current government is as legit as any on earth and more legit than most.

More legit than the US government, certainly, by a long shot.

There is a rank of swine around here who work off a set of talking points without engaging.

I disagree. People accepted the results of a rigged election in Ukraine... because their elections had been rigged for a long time and they were numb to it, likely they appreciated that someone attempted to color some legitimacy to it. As for the USA... we aren’t getting over the industrial scale voter fraud. There will be accountability and those that are complicit will be held accountable... and that accountability will save the rest of the world.

Ran into someone on this forum who was one of those who claims that Nuclear war isnt as bad as it is made out to be.

Pointed to all the testing that was done in NV, and all that, and here we all are! WALLA! Nobody is worse for the wear!

Except the downwinders and good portion of the USA.

Ask him if he knew how much of that radiation had got into the California drinking water. Didnt know. The fact is..the Colorado river system got plenty and it went all the way to California, Etc.

These people are IGNORANT!

“between WWI and WWII and then extrapolate for WWIII.”

Even a half of a nuclear conflict will result in at least one third of the earths population dying. And some say that is a low estimate.

Everything stops...EVERY THING. Society breaks down.

That is what will happen in a even a limited nuclear war.

What is a limited nuclear war? We dont know, but will find out.

Reagan said that in a nuclear war, there are NO WINNERS.

I havent heard of any Ukrainian complaints about vote fraud.

You cant dismiss this sort of thing. Certainly not on these grounds. If you went about doing so then no country has a legit government. That way leads to foreign policy insanity.

Countries elect their leaders for their own reasons, however much we dislike their choice. Absent widespread complaints we have to assume they are done correctly.

The last Philippine election, this year, was very disappointing to me, but in that one, likewise, there were no substantial complaints and the results are legitimate, however unfortunate.

Oh, puhleez! Blurred picture with photo shopped contour. Google “Zaluzhny bracelet high resolution.” What do you see, orc? This is such a cheap shot, hahahahaha!

Your rat dictator is soon to hang. If he does not take his own life, which he will not because he is a coward. He even sits 30 feet away from his generals because he is afraid of Chinese flu.

And the typical “orc” language is trademark of the Ukrainian neo-Nazis’ and their neo-Nazi supporters and sympathizers.

Thank you for revealing your true colors.

Let us all remember who started this fiasco in the Ukraine, every neocon's hero - O'Biden!

I sure hope this works out better than Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, etc.

Then why did your hero Zelensky outlaw opposition parties and have the state take over all television news? He would make a great Demonrat.
