Cornered like a rat, Vladimir Putin is more dangerous than ever, warns Russia expert
THE DAILY MAIL ^ | 10 October 2022 | PROFESSOR MARK GALEOTTI

Posted on 10/10/2022 8:03:02 PM PDT by dennisw

The horrifying attacks on Ukraine yesterday– are a sign that the Russian president is, if not yet desperate, getting nearer to it.

They represent a highly significant psychological shift for the beleaguered leader. He is no longer trying to win the war: now he is simply trying not to visibly lose it.

Previously he could have defined victory however he wanted. But by annexing Ukrainian regions, he has upped the already high stakes. If he cedes so-called ‘Russian’ territory, he will become the Tsar who gave away Russian land instead of the strongman who restored the empire.

And by ordering partial mobilisation on September 21 he ensured the war now touches every Russian family. Putin has made the catastrophic mistake of calling his own bluff.

He realises he is fighting for his political life and, as we have seen before, he is ready to sacrifice countless lives at the altar of his own ambition. In 2000 he let 118 men die on the stricken Kursk submarine rather than accept help from the West to rescue them.

Now he is prepared to accept appallingly high casualties among the ill-trained conscripts he has sent to Ukraine.

The Russian army has been revealed as shoddy, incompetent and ill equipped. Money that should have been spent on maintenance was siphoned off. Meanwhile the Ukrainian army, equipped with 21st century weaponry by the West, and highly skilled partly thanks to British training, has inspired awe with its indomitable spirit.

Battlefield failure reflects badly on Putin personally because he has built himself up as a warrior president. Some years ago, I met a group of Russian officers who, after alcohol had lubricated tongues, were scathing about Putin’s military pretensions. ‘I wouldn’t want a virgin telling me what to do on my wedding night,’ one said.

They do cover news in the U.S. the MSM won’t touch and try to hide, but I’m not on this war propaganda that they also pushed with Iraq and Libya.

Which side you gonna be on when Turkey and Greece get into it?

Or when China manages to take control over even more territory in the South Pacific?

Or after Russia plants missiles in Nicaragua?

Or is this the ONLY thing you all can focus on?

Europe has got enough firepower over there, let them handle it!

It wasnt Putin who gave up on Afghanistan, that was Gorbachev. Putin was a mid-level guy at the KGB at the time.

Putins problem in part is that he is the sole boss, the one and only, having got rid of or suppressed all others in a position to challenge him.

Gorbachev effectively was the first among equals, the chairman of a committee. He could present a withrawal as a collective decision.

And the Soviet Union was in no way as invested in Afghanistan as Russia is in Ukraine. This is a way bigger war and Russias sunk costs are tremendous.

Another complication is that everyone knows that Putin started this. Gorbachev was dealing with some other guys’ mess.

Here is the truth... we have no idea what is going on in Ukraine. The US, specifically Lindsey Graham and John McCain... helped lead a color revolution. Think “Charlie Wilson’s War”. Western “Elites” (self appointed) installed a Comedian who was a favorite of the World Economic Forum... Ukraine has been a clearing house for western politicians to launder money (Joe and Hunter)... It is the perfect storm... our elections are rigged in the US, the US media is corrupted by all manner of influences... so we have no idea if anything we read from any source is the truth... because self appointed elites are in charge of our media and they rigged the elections. So... Buy dirt, make sure you have a plan and engage and fight with what ever the good lord gave you when you wake up tomorrow.

Hey kook bird your skirt is showing.

What’s the likelihood that I’m not only a fascist, a homo, and a Bidenista, but I’m even an Islamist?

When you sober up maybe you’ll realize that your delusions about everyone who disagrees with you indicate that your judgment isn’t worth a damn.

I despise Biden and jackasses like you.

God bless Ukraine and let’s hope Putin rots in hell real soon.

Oh and by the way fool, your hero Putin has brought in real Islamists from Syria and Chechnya to kill Christian Europeans.

But why let reality get in the way of your delusions.

Yep, but also the guys who breathlessly report Ukr losses are equally skewed. You can tell because if either were right this thing would’ve been over by June, or we’d be glowing right now.

Oh, we will all char together when we char
And let there be no moaning of the bar
Just sing out a Te Deum
When you see that ICBM
And the party will be come-as-you-are

Tomorrow, start calling your congress people and DEMAND that a Peacemaker like President Trump be sent to de-escalate the war in UKR.

State to them that this Resident Biden is obviously not up to the task of safeguarding the citizens of the United States.

We have HAD ENOUGH!

lol...Even after what's happened in the past 24 hours, we have morons that believe this horse sh#t?

Ukraine will be turned into rumble unless it unconditionally surrenders.

Good grief. The Ukrainians couldn't even mount any air defense against the missile strikes launched yesterday.

The Russians are done f---ing around.

Hitler was going to lose WWII.

He was a crazed leader of Germany and the German people followed their crazed leader Hitler.
.
Hitler lost 460,000 men in the Battle of Normandy. The Germans were either dead, taken prisoner or so badly injured that they could not fight anymore.

No telling how many German Soldier were gone after Germany invaded Russia.

Germany was really gone after this.

Hitler still tried to do the Battle of the Bulge but he was through. The Germans still followed their crazed leader.

Hitler committed suicide right after these losses.

Putin has atomic weapons and we know that and he knows what it would take Russia to use these atomic weapons.

Putin is using the same tactics as Hitler.

“Yep, but also the guys who breathlessly report Ukr losses are equally skewed.”

True and actual numbers will not be fully known, if at all, till varying independent groups can gain access to such information for all sides involved.

However, while numbers can be skewed, media reports can offer a rough glimpse/approximation of those numbers, especially those coming from wounded soldiers interviewed, ground officer accounts, etc.

Its a damn good comparison.

Hitler was a cornered rat, and he knew it. He was trying for a hail Mary pass. The regime as much as conceded it, often citing the “miracle” that saved Frederick the Great in 1762.

You lot are putting your faith in evil men.

“Biden should’ve gone in and shorn up Ukraine with our/NATOs troops to begin with“

I do not and will not agree to sending any American troops to Ukraine. Europe is doing what Europe has done for time immemorial, redraw their territorial lines. Let them fight it out.

Why in Gods name are so many itching for a US/Russian conflict? This is insanity writ large. Especially considering our current civilian as well as military leadership. Total war with any near peer enemy right now would be bad news imho. We outta stay the heck out of this one.

I swear everyone has lost their minds, and have forgotten what total war looks like and what it will do to our next generation. The cost in human lives, if the US and Russia go toe to toe, will be immense.

I’m not actually.

But if Biden thought it was worthwhile he should’ve gone in 100% from day one.

His mismanagement of this whole affair is disgusting.

The comedian was elected in a free election in 2019, not in a color revolution in 2014. In 2014 Zelensky was still making movies.

And, note, it was not a close election. It was Zelensky vs Poroshenko. Zelensky won in every oblast save in the far west (the most anti-Russian).

“and have forgotten what total war looks like”

Its coming to a total war. The problem with these assholes is they do not understand what a “total” war is.

Keeps on and they will find out and then they will not like it.

Yep, but also the guys who breathlessly report Ukr losses are equally skewed.

Yes, I ignore stuff like that, also.

I'm more focused on the Clausewitz portion of the equation:

The destruction of the enemy's armed forces is the means to the end
