The Universe Is Not Locally Real, and the Physics Nobel Prize Winners Proved It
Scientific American ^ | 6th oct2022 | Daniel Garisto

One of the more unsettling discoveries in the past half century is that the universe is not locally real. “Real,” meaning that objects have definite properties independent of observation—an apple can be red even when no one is looking; “local” means objects can only be influenced by their surroundings, and any influence cannot travel faster than light. Investigation shows objects are not influenced solely by surroundings and may also lack definite properties prior2 measurement

...pairs of particles are sent off in different directions from a common source, targeted for two observers, Alice and Bob, each stationed at opposite ends of the solar system. Quantum mechanics dictates that it is impossible to know the spin, a quantum property of individual particles prior to measurement. When Alice measures one of her particles, she finds its spin to be either up or down. Her results are random, and yet, when she measures up, she instantly knows Bob’s corresponding particle must be down. .

...But under quantum mechanics, particles are not like socks, and only when measured do they settle on a spin of up or down. This is EPR’s key conundrum: If Alice’s particles lack a spin until measurement, how then when they whiz past Neptune do they know what Bob’s particles will do as they fly out of the solar system in the other direction? Each time Alice measures, she effectively quizzes her particle on what Bob will get if he flips a coin: up, or down? The odds of correctly predicting this even 200 times in a row are 1 in 1060—a number greater than all the atoms in the solar system. Yet despite the billions of kilometers that separate the particle pairs, quantum mechanics says Alice’s particles can keep correctly predicting, as though they were telepathically connected to Bob’s particles.

"Scientists" really went off on a tangent once they heard about quantum theory. Some seemed to really like being able to say that nothing is certain - that everything is just a bunch of statistics.

If a tiger bites you on the butt, that's real.

Scientists were never very good at philosophy anyway.

I came to my own conclusion a while back that quantum entanglement proved that distance/space is an illusion.

I also came to the conclusion that the necessity of a conscious observer for a quantum phenomena to exist proves that the universe must be under the control of a universal consciousness, AKA God.

Of course we can’t have any talk of God, so consciousness is a verboten topic in the “scientific” community.

“an apple can be red even when no one is looking”

Whoa, give this man a prize!

He was making a point, we are used to such givens as an apple being red whether we look at it or not.

That is not the case with quantum spin, the spin ONLY becomes apparent the moment we look at it. So in the case of the apple, if it behaved this way, it would take on a colour ONLY the first time we looked at it. Further no matter the distance between entangled quantum particles, once one of them establishes a spin the other will automatically establish the opposite.

Makes good fiction but I don’t really believe it.

I first heard about this concept within the discussion of FTL (faster than light) communication.

If we ever send probes or people to multiple light year distances, it would be a challenge to communicate with them back and forth at light speed. There should be a faster way, other than waiting years for a reply.

Thing exist in context (or relative)to the totally of the universe

Say you are 1 of 1000 in a room. you remove someone from the room... an everone changes to a degree as you are all now 1 of 999

Any changes anywhere alter the context of everything else

And we can prove motion is impossible even though it happens all the time. In order to travel from point A to point B because a person at point A has to travel one half the distance first (point A1), then from point A1 half the distance to point B again and so on infinitum, never actually arriving at point B.

Therefore motion is impossible. Same deal with quantum mechanics here.

People continue to publish articles and confuse the public about what is “real” and “local” based on the EPR conjecture and Bell’s inequality mathematics. Quantum entanglement is a continuous process that decohers into reality all the time at all scales. It is only measurable at very small scales such as photons and electrons.

Quantum mechanics changed classical physics by demonstrating that energy was a function of the frequency change in a “field” rather than a continuous property. To simplify the math, periodic frequency was best expressed using complex numbers (real + imaginary pair) rather just a single real number as in classical physics. The way to get to a real number from a complex number is to multiply it by itself.

Along with this came a different algebra. In classical physics with only real values AB = BA all the time. In quantum physics with complex numbers this property, called commutation, is not always true because the imaginary part can have a plus or minus sign. That’s the whole trick with Bell’s inequality. He showed that when you use complex number pairs for quantum particles the expected probability values did not agree with classical set theory using only real numbers.

None of this violates “locality” since the communication of information about the measured spin is always limited by the finite speed of light. People love all this spooky stuff but its really just due to using a different set of algebra rules to express quantum states.
