Modi rebukes Putin over war in Ukraine
The Washington Post ^ | September 16, 2022 | Mary Ilyushina

Bluntly challenged by Indian Prime Minister Nerandra Modi over the war in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said that Russia would strive to stop the conflict “as soon as possible” but then blamed Ukraine for refusing to negotiate, though Putin ordered the invasion and his troops are still occupying a large swath of Ukrainian territory.

Putin’s remarks came during an appearance with Modi, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where they are attending a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

In a stunning public rebuke, Modi told Putin: “Today’s era is not an era of war, and I have spoken to you on the phone about this.”

Modi’s remark, as the two leaders sat in front of journalists and cameras, came a day after Putin acknowledged he had heard “concerns and questions” about the war from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Responding to Modi, Putin said: “I know your position on the conflict in Ukraine, about your concerns that you constantly express. We will do our best to stop this as soon as possible. Only, unfortunately, the opposing side, the leadership of Ukraine, announced its abandonment of the negotiation process, declared that it wants to achieve its goals by military means, as they say, ‘on the battlefield.’ Nevertheless, we will always keep you informed of what is happening there.”

I suspect Z-man played the Russians for time for weapons deliveries. Just a hunch.

Alternately, if Zelenskyy was wavering, ongoing events likely stiffened his spine.

Finally, I think a large portion of the population would have turned on him.

He’s gotten a fairly good amount of support. I would have
thought that the populace would have become critical of
him, but they’ve held in there > IMO.

“Militias form because groups of people are being attacked, they didn’t need Putin’s help.”

Sorfy, Putin was instrumdental in the start of all the militias on the Eastern border of Ukraine. It has been his modis operandi in fostering “breakaway” movements in states on Russia’s borders.

Also, wouldn’t it be bloody funny if all those reports (mainly from pro-Russian sources in the first instance) of Ukraine flogging the arms off were not true.

People who bang on about Ukraine spreading fake news might want to consider, if that was really part of the game then why wouldn’t the Ukes con the Russians into thinking that Ukraine was on its knees after flogging off all the best freebies from America while begging daily for replacements?

Rope-a-dope; if they were actually stockpiling the kit that the Western trained troops would need when they shipped back in then that might explain the very sudden turnaround.

Russia’s already claimed to have captured and destroyed more HIMARS than have been shipped into Ukraine. And Russians believe any old pony put out by their military.

Russia’s pathological economy with the actualite can easily be turned against it...

Soooo the rest of the land not in those regions were by invite and the trip to outskirts of Kiev a spring break trip. I realize that Ukrainian leadership are no saints but all these apologies for Russian or putins aggression death and destruction. I suppose the missle attack on the dam was just to help water the crops. Tiresome

India is looking out for itself.

They are getting oil and natural gas at a good price. Long term, India is working toward energy independence. Buying energy from Russia to fund future Russian wars will harm India's relations with other countries. When Modi visited HOusiton in September 2019, he was talking business, economics, technology exchange, and trade agreements. India needs and wants that far more the oil economy centered warfare Russia uses.

India is the biggest buyer of Russian military hardware. Getting reliable jet engines and replacements from Russia has been a problem. The Su-50 /Su-57 was supposed to be joint project until India dropped out due to cost, quality, a performance issues. For its own national security, India likes getting technology transfers and production licenses. What they get from Russia now is not good in that area.

Being the biggest buyer of Russian military equipment means India is looking at its performance in Ukraine versus US and European weapons. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, every time Russian weaponry gets in a fight with US and European weapons, Russian weaponry fares badly. This is after India has had problems with Russia on longer timer military projects like the Su-50/57.

Reading between the lines, Modi is telling Putin the war in Ukraine is the last one India helps pay for.

Maybe India would like to get in on the proposed F-36 Kingsnake of the F-16XL?

Xi made it clear that Putin has made Russia a Chinese vassal state. And that Xi does not support a long and losing war - it’s bad for business.

Modi will buy petroleum products at a stiff discount but not support the war.

Oh and Kazakhstan, China, India etc will keep Putin waiting impotently.

Russia has been beholden to China for over a decade now due to Putin’s wastage of Russian potential.

India is strong enough to take on China by itself now as seen in their sabre rattling in the Himalayas

No he isn’t. His punches are weakened. He levelled Ukrainian cities like Mariupol and Sevierodonetsk. No pulling then.

Both at buying Russian petroleum exports at hefty discounts. Putin sells at loss considering the transportation.

India has no interest in doing anything more.

Bric or brics were just Goldman Sachs marketing.

India does more business with the USA than with the rest of the Bric combined.

Brazil also.

Putin said “I raped here then wanted to negotiate so I could do it again, but Ukraine refused to negotiate to let me rape her again “.

And you support that.

“. I thought Russia invaded to stop the harrassment of russians in Donbass, turn the water back on to Crimea “

That’s what Kremlin propaganda told you.

It is false.

Putin invaded Ukraine for rebuilding the Tsardom of Muscowy.

I hope this means Putin is looking for some kind of escape ramp.

Please, Lord, let it be so. Let this horror end.

Putin is rapist, too! I never knew!

But, nothing is lower than the scumbag neo-Nazis we've enabled and funded in Ukraine and who you've been rooting for.

Nothing about Ukraine resembles a free country or a democracy. It's a corrupt shithole and playground for our elite politicians and oligarchs.
