On the night of the 2018 midterm elections, as a wave of anti-Trump sentiment swept Democrats to take control of the House, top Republican Mitt Romney urged Joe Biden to run for president.
“You have to run,” said Romney, the Republican presidential nominee Biden and Barack Obama defeated in 2012, speaking to the former vice-president by phone.
The same night, Romney was elected a US senator from Utah, a post from which he would twice vote to convict Donald Trump in impeachment trials.
Romney’s exhortation to a man then seen as a likely challenger to Donald Trump in 2020 will probably further enrage the former president, his supporters and the Republican party they dominate...
The Biden-Romney call is described in The Long Alliance: The Imperfect Union of Joe Biden and Barack Obama, a book by Gabriel Debenedetti that will be published next week. The Guardian obtained a copy...
In a note on sourcing, Debenedetti says his book is “primarily the product of hundreds of interviews” with “colleagues, aides, rivals, confidants, allies and eyewitnesses from every stage” of Obama and Biden’s careers since 2003...
He also says: “When someone’s words are rendered in italics, that indicates an approximation based on the memories of sources who did not recall exact wordings...”
Romney’s opposition to Trump is long established, if not entirely consistent...
In 2016, the former Massachusetts governor spoke out against Trump, decrying his behaviour on the campaign trail and calling him a “phony” and a “fraud”. After the election, he said he did not vote for the Republican nominee, writing in his wife’s name instead...

And there ya go - hard proof that the GOP doesn’t care about its members but only about working for the elitists.
Time to kick these scum out.
“top Republican”
Yep, it sure makes you wonder, why would a Republican have urged a certain Democrat to run for president?? And then that Democrat ended up surviving the primaries to oppose a president of his own political party?
That Romney sure must have a lot of criminal activity he is afraid of people finding out. I guess his son being on Burisma’s board, along with Hunter, Kerry’s stepson, and Pelosi’s son, is just the tip of the iceberg. Nothing else explains the over-the-top fear of Trump.
“Wake up Utah”
You got that right......if I didn’t know better I’d think marijuana was legal in that state..........maybe it’s too much inbreeding.
Funny that Biden’s and Romney’s sons were into the same money scams....little wonder Romney felt connected enough to Biden to make the call.
Probably rigged like 2020.
I know for a fact that in Michigan, the "blue wave" was only in the red counties.
Not the blue counties.
Also, little Paul "Eddie Munster" Ryan was busily making sure that enough of his Pubbies bailed to flip the House to The Louse.
Which is interesting in itself - considering his relationship to the subject of this article...
“why would a Republican have urged a certain Democrat to run for president?”
romney ain’t no repub......hell he’s not even a RINO.
He’s a democrat occupying a republican senate seat
Utah, you have to get this despicable snake out of the Senate. Liz Cheney him.
That’s a total lie. In November ‘18 everyone, especially brother Uniparty senators, knew Biden was a completely comprised joke with zero shot to get the nomination. Obama had made it clear he knew Biden was an idiot.
Pawn Biden didn’t take down Trump the democrats rigging Inc. with the massaged media help caused the America bleeding event.
It was rigged but not like 2020. It was rigged by the uniparty. The GOP made sure they gave up the majority in the house, people in very safe seats all bailed surprisingly and others just basically threw their races by mailing it in. But why?
Simple. Look at Obamacare as the best example. They ran for YEARS saying give us power and we'll remove and replace it. They got power, both chambers and the white house. Then they refused to do it, told us all it had just been lies and took the beating. They never ever ever wanted to take the beating again. But they had to block Trump at everything. No wall (that they said they supported but didn't mean), no infrastructure (that the said they supported and actually did mean but not if Trump wanted it, they waited for Biden to vote for it). Etc. They wanted the dems in to do the blocking so they could go back to pretending to want things they really didn't without having to actually risk having to admit they were lying like with Obamacare.
Hell, they even now are literally running on no agenda at all, tell me one thing they GOP has promised to do if they got the majority in either chamber. Not one candidate, the party, what's the platform? There is none. Because they can't say what they really want to do, but they don't want to have lies be on the record anymore because accountability embarasses them.
Meanwhile, the Democrats work ceaselessly to secure REAL power.
Our country is majority conservative.
We just have a Pubbie knife sticking out of our back.
The Mormon Mafia setup by Harry Reid is very real.
We used to talk at Intel if you wanted a promotion in Portland, become Mormon.
If you are not Indian, Chinese or Mormon, you are out of luck.
Good for you!
This is EXACTLY why the current political environment is so disorienting. It's not true that the GOP does not oppose the Democrats on anything. It's just that on the things the differ with the Democrats about the GOP is WORSE.
Who is going to vote for more foreign wars on behalf of alien peoples while keeping the border open? Who's going to vote for keeping all productive and extractive industries overseas to depress the cost of labor? Who's going to vote for more Drag Queen story hour?
The GOP HAS TO run on "nothing", because the Democrats ARE horrible and saying "We're not them" will win a few races that would otherwise be lost.
But the GOP can't tell you what they will do in power, because then you would never vote for them again.
Do not fund the GOP! Send money directly to maga candidates.
Hairdo Mittwit Romney probably owes his recent political success to dope boy money and secret sleepers. Can't say that one of the secret sleepers *is* Romney, because it's no secret.
And how does this apply to the election disparities.
