Elite medical schools are deliberately recruiting woke activists, jeopardizing their mission of training physicians.
That’s what our organization found in a review of the application process for America’s top 50 medical schools. Nearly three-quarters of these institutions — and 80% of the top 10 — ask applicants about their views on diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism and other politicized concepts. The clear goal is to find the students who will best advance divisive ideology, not provide the best care to patients.
We based our review on the 2023 “Best Medical Schools” rankings by US News and World Report. We then looked at the secondary essay questions each school asks applicants, using a database compiled by Prospective Doctor. (Despite the name, secondary questions play a primary role in each institution’s selection process.)
Many schools explicitly ask applicants if they agree with statements about racial politics. Others gauge applicants’ views on or experience with woke concepts.

And it’s not just students. Many schools are also moving to require that professors be woke, as well.

Medical schools are rushing down a dangerous road. These institutions have long lowered application and educational standards in the name of diversity; now they are enacting an ideological litmus test for future physicians.
Recruiting woke activists instead of the most qualified candidates will both undermine trust in health care and lead to worse health outcomes for patients. That’s the last thing medical schools should do.

Aha. A graduate of one of our top “alternative” medical schools.
I said that we should not. A vote was held. The majority agreed with me. Standards were not lowered.
Apparently things have changed there.
I am a physician. I refuse to have as one of my doctors someone who I suspect attended medical school as a subqualified affirmative action student. I also refuse to send my family and friends to such a person.
Medical schools make a very serious mistake when they lower their standards. Standards should be held at the highest, and students must rise to those highest standards.
I believe all the curve show the same date range of data; just that all other countries spend less then US. You can see some curve drop down and then go up or recede to the left then back to the right. To read the amount for a specific year you have to count the turns in each curve.
Ben Carson and Clarence Thomas have commented on how affirmative action stigmatizes the standing of black professionals. Unfortunately it puts the competence of all of them in question, and it looks like it’s only going to get worse.
Yep, you don’t see a lot of tubby 80 year olds.
Luckily, we are of an age that unless there are special circumstances our doctors are also of an age to have escaped this scourge.
Decades ago, it often was the opposite. Decades ago, my wife was hired as the office nurse for a new doctor in town.
Most of the established gps/fps were good with bedside and patient discussions. They were often 20-30 years behind positive newer treatment methods.
In a few months many patients fled the older gps/fps to the new doctor and his staff. In less than a year, he closed his practice to new patients.
He brought a couple of new doctors into town, and that trend continued with them.
Over the past 2.5 years, most of the medical community has utterly beclowned itself by supporting all kinds of stupidity in the name of “COVID”.

What's going on appears to be a kind of very powerful brainwashing.
Brainwashing usually isn't that powerful and requires reinforcement over time. Just thinking out loud here, but perhaps by creating an echo chamber of like-minded brainwashed people (the way the Left has done in the U.S.), you create a continual "reinforcement" mechanism.
If that is the case, someone or some organization put a lot of time, preparation, and money into building a brainwashing program/mechanism for people in the U.S.
I mean, this brainwashing thing is without precedent. It's a really big deal.
You beat me to it. There aren’t too many professional occupations that have lost more credibility over the last two years than medical doctors.

The whole system is a government run disaster and I can’t think of too many people who have much trust in doctors since they allowed themselves to be bullied into bad medicine regarding covid 19. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Prior to that, they were just a body, sitting behind a ‘puter pushing pills for their overlords Big Pharma and the socialist bureaucracy.
They used to be well trained diagnosticians who made their own decisions and forged a trust with patients.

I think part of the problem is our fattie lifestyle but our medical costs are truly a disgrace.
