Columbia Steel Casting Co., a Portland metal casting company that dates back more than a century, told state regulators Wednesday it plans to shut down operations at its North Portland foundry and lay off most of its workforce.
The company said 225 employees, many represented by three different unions, would be laid off beginning in October. The filing indicated the closure would be permanent, though a letter to employees indicated that the company was in talks with “various companies” about buying the foundry and maintaining operations.

That “three different union” part most likely has a part in the shutterdown decision. That and the envirofreek crowd in Portland.

Part of Biden’s build back better plan.

Since the article comes from “The Oregonian”, I would presume they are referring to Oregon.

The article outlines the causes nicely:
-unfair overseas competition
-regulations
-government COVID restrictions
-lack of workforce retention

Exactly. I was a union member during a strike. A coworker showed me a picture of one of the Union reps show up in a nearly brand new 3 series BMW, tell every one to stay strong, refuse to answer any meaningful questions and scurry off.

The usual checklist of government malfeasance:
a) allow unfair, subsidized foreign competitors to ship to the US;
b) impose horrendous regulatory and environmental costs on the US business;
c) wait for the business to close;
d) make unemployed workers wards of the state who will vote Democrat.
