When Beth Brown needs groceries, she often does her shopping in her own backyard.
Brown estimates she's saving $400 per month on groceries by growing vegetables like lettuce, squash, tomatoes and cantaloupe. The nurse and single mom of two boys said she's trying to save everywhere she can as prices skyrocket.
"The prices of food have really gone up just everywhere," Brown told CBS News. "So I have been growing a lot more vegetables to kind of keep up with that."

Tomatoes are pretty easy to grow...morning sun, shade at the hottest time of day.
How soon before the two-legged locusts are stripping gardens while the owners are at work or asleep?
Or put a tax on natural rainfall..
Or be fined by the local Home Owners Association
My garden has been great this year. I am currently planning to dedicate a wall in my office to growing microgreens and other veggies year round. That will be in addition to my outdoor garden.
I doubled my garden this year, and also have a hydroponics system. Thinking about converting the spare bedroom into an indoor, larger hydroponic system. LED grow lights are fairly cheap, at least for now. Unfortunately, in the Seattle Tacoma region growing melons is not an option.
Guess there’s a whole bunch of different micro tomato plants. Something I didn’t know existed until yesterday. https://heritageseedmarket.com/index.php/product-category/dwarf-tomatoes/micro-dwarf-tomatoes/
Some people grow them indoors but it requires grow lights
Don’t be surprised if SCOTUS has another Wickard v Filburn (1942) ruling coming down at a farmer for growing too much wheat to feed his own livestock.
“Domestic terrorists” do home gardens!
Squash plants are good producers too. I used to drive by a community garden near me all the time and all the plants looked bountiful. Unfortunately the land finally got developed by the owner (a developer), so that particular garden is no more.
The classic Britcom Good Life might be worth watching for inspiration. A favorite of mine.

Billions of federal dollars spent to make sure Aunt Gladys doesn't grow her tomatoes.
We are already involved in a war of survival with our own government . It just hasn't broken out into widespread shooting yet.
But the time is fast approaching when these gardens can once again rightfully be called "Victory Gardens".
Same here. It's doing pretty good too.
Unfortunately, the deer and the chipmunks haven't had the common
decency to send me a thank-you note - not yet anyway.
;-)
You must buy a LOT of produce to spend $100/week.
