Liz Cheney calls GOP "very sick," questions whether party can recover
Axios ^ | August 7, 2022 | Julia Shapero

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said she believes the Republican Party is "very sick" and may not be able to recover in the near future.

The GOP "is continuing to drive itself in a ditch, and I think it’s going to take several cycles if it can be healed," Cheney said, according to The New York Times.

"I would much rather serve with (Democratic Reps.) Mikie Sherrill and Chrissy Houlahan and Elissa Slotkin than (Republican Reps.) Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, even though on substance certainly I have big disagreements with the Democratic women I just mentioned," Cheney added, per the Times. "But they love this country, they do their homework and they are people that are trying to do the right thing for the country."

As rumors abound of her own potential presidential run in 2024, Cheney said she "would find it very difficult" to support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the party's candidate.

"I think that Ron DeSantis has lined himself up almost entirely with Donald Trump, and I think that’s very dangerous," she said.

She is quite correct. Not, of course, the way she means it - but she's correct in spite of herself.

The death of the GOP would be the best thing that could happen for America. The GOP alone blocks a huge move to the right by all normal Americans, Republican AND Democrat. Every period of Republican rule, except 2017-2021 (which was not really "Republican rule") has FAILED to move America to the right, has FAILED to besiege and eventually destroy the Left who are on the verge of complete and total victory, has FAILED to protect our borders and our children, and has FAILED in almost every other aspect of governance.

The GOP IS very sick, and I hope it's terminal - so we can finally get on with saving the country.

I think the deciding point was Saddam’s plot to kill W’s father when he visited Kuwait, and that wouldn’t have influenced Gore. The Iraq War was a strategic disaster that unleashed Iran.

And frankly I held my tongue on 9/11, but the fact is it did happen on Cheney/Bush’s watch after they were in office for nine months. That was plenty of time. But of course Bush and Clinton were pretty much the same, so I wouldn’t have expected Bush to do anything differently than Clinton.

The GOP has been helping the Democrats drive the country into a ditch for decades, so in that way she is correct.

My strong suspicion?

Ms Cheney knows that she faces forever humiliation in the voting booths by Citizens whose clear will she chose so contemptuously to reject.

What to do?

Clintonian triangulation, seeding discontent and trashing us GOPers to pull voters from our base into an alleged, mythical center comes to mind as a possibility.

Might she run as a GOPer in the primaries? Yup, but watch for her to go full indie (with Willard?) in the general.

They would place a distant third (of course), the GOP would be hobbled into second, and the Dems would be gifted another 4. Dems would plow money into such an indie campaign, just to widen the divisions among us.

How much of this would be settling a score with GOP voters?

All conjecture subject to learning more in the coming months.

What she’s really saying is she thinks the voters suck.

Exactly. When the elected representative asserts she is better than the voter constituents, she is beyond her expiration date. Buh bye.

Just think, had Bush lost, we might have gotten:

- huge expansion of Medicaid/Medicare
- massive intrusion of FedGov into primary and secondary education policy
- one or more trillion-dollar wars in central Asia for “democracy”
- government pushing banks to approve mortgages to rectify “social injustice”, regardless of ability of the borrower to make payments, leading to a financial crisis
- Attempt at illegal immigration amnesty under the name of “immigration reform”
- exploding deficits

LOL, reminds me of the joke, “I was told that if I voted for Goldwater, we’d have riots in the streets, and get into a long unwinnable war. Well I did vote for Goldwater, and darned if they weren’t right!”

ep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said she believes the Republican Party is "very sick" and may not be able to recover in the near future.

Spoken by the sickest woman I know. I don't think SHE will ever recover."

"I would much rather serve with (Democratic Reps.)

You can stop the quote right there.

You had to figure she's anti-DeSantis too. Any politician who loves America and hates the Deep State....she hates.
