The House passed an assault weapons ban Friday evening looking to give Democrats a last-minute win on their way out the door for August recess.
Five Democrats voted against the measure - Reps. Kurt Schrader, Ore., Vicente Gonzalez, Texas, Rep. Jared Golden, Maine and Rep. Ron Kind, R-Wisc.
Two Republicans voted for the measure - Reps. Chris Jacobs, N.Y., and Brian Fitzpatrick, Pa.
The ban cleared a procedural hurdle that allowed the House to move forward with expedited debate on Friday afternoon, with a final vote expected to follow. Three Democrats - Reps. Vicente Gonzalez, Texas, Jared Golden, Maine, and Kurt Schrader, Ore., voted 'no' with all Republicans, but the resolution passed 217 -211.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi meanwhile broke out a floor sign advertising AR-15s for children as she urged members to vote in favor of the ban.
'JR 15: Get 'em one like yours,' the ad reads, along with a photo of a child-sized AR-15.
'Our goal was to develop a shooting platform that was not only sized correctly, and safe, but also looks, feels and operates just like mom and dad's gun,' the ad continues.
The weapons manufacturer Wee 1 Tactics unveiled the 'JR-15' in January.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., expressed support for the child's semi-automatic weapon on Twitter.

The bill permits continued possession of, but prohibits sale or transfer of, a grandfathered LCAFD.
Those two lines of the bill are in complete contradiction. Did Nanzi 'the drunk' Pelozi write it?
Apparently the bill does outlaw possession of LAWs even though some on this thread have said otherwise.
They used to say similar about gay marriage and the military, being strictly meritocracy, was beyond identity politics.

I had to read the statement a few times until differences clicked myself.
They intentionally make this crap as confusing as possible to trip people up. I’ve known many moderates and conservatives that thought the 94 AWB was about full auto.

Probably intentional by the authors. Like using the acronym SAW for “Semi-automatic Assault Weapon” when that acronym is already in use in the military for the fully-automatic Squad Automatic Weapon.

He’s not a 100% psychopath like a typical Democrat member of Congress, but he can’t afford to be unless he thinks his constituents aren’t paying attention. Only by the standards of the rest of today’s Rat Caucus could he be remotely considered “moderate”.
Golden’s district voted for Trump twice, so Golden must do a good job of fooling the folks back home. Obviously he was deliberately allowed by Pelosi & Hoyer to stray off the plantation for this vote (thanks again, Collins & Fitzpatrick!) and he will play this up big in his campaign ads:
“I’m an independent who bucked the Democrat leadership and supported gun rights! And I did it for YOU!”
With RINO help, Golden may have just saved his career.

Maybe you haven't noticed but people are starting to wear masks again. That's a big signal of submission so don't be surprised if this attack on the 2nd Amendment doesn't pick up steam... after, how did you put it? a difficult lesson is learned?
