First lady Jill Biden was roasted on social media for her appearance at a "LatinX IncluXion" luncheon in San Antonio on Monday.
Biden was one of the scheduled speakers at the luncheon, which aimed to increase awareness of how Latinos are “integral” to diversity efforts in the workplace, according to the event description. But the occasion will perhaps best be known for how critics, Republicans and conservative Hispanics among them, chided the first lady for not just the name of the event but also what she said.
“Maybe if we rebrand the Southern Border as Souxern BorderX, Joe Biden will finally visit?” tweeted Texas congressional candidate Cassy Garcia, who is vying to unseat Rep. Henry Cuellar (D) in a seat Republicans believe they can flip in November.
*** "Everyone knows that not a single Hispanic uses ‘Latinx,’” said Carolina Amnesty, a Republican running for Congress in Florida. “The reason why woke corporations and Democrats keep imposing it on us is to control how we think about gender, and thus, how we vote. Unfortunately for them, we believe in God, Family, and Freedom — not MarXism." ***
Detractors mocked the first lady for her pronunciation of “bodegas,” pronouncing it as “bogidas,” and saying the Hispanic community is as unique as the “breakfast tacos” in San Antonio.
“Jill Biden says Hispanics are as ‘unique’ as tacos and calls bodegas ‘bogidas,’” said Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ). “No wonder Hispanics are fleeing the Democratic Party!”

ROFL
My argument regarded the notion of a language that was ‘gender free’.
Until about the 1970s, ‘gender’ was generally a grammatical term.
That may have changed; but a language is not just its pronouns, articles, or gender forms of adjectives or nouns; and is not ‘gender free’ even in the modern sense if it has words that designate or distinguish between the male and female in any way.
(Unless you like terms like ‘birthing person’ - which I doubt exist in any language - yet - but perverted English.)
What that guy was talking about was NOT whether other languages have words for 'woman', as you pontificated in your self-important, know-it-all post earlier.
I will not allow you to word-salad your way out of that flash of ignorance, dear. Better that you concentrate on your strengths: Los Sangwichos.
Cabrito oh yes it’s all over central Texas. You can find it on the menus in Austin especially in the south side of town. Tarpley Texas go to Mac and Ernies it’s a little road side shack of an eatery. You order at the side and eat under the trees on bench tables. They have a cabrito burger with goat cheese that will bring a tear to the eye is so good. In the ranchlands baby goat is done while the same way you do barbacoa which literally means to barbeque as in low and slow in a pit with coals. The whole goat is wrapped in agave leaves then burlap and put in a pit with coals and stones heated by those coals. Than covered with earth for at least 8 hours when it’s dug up something heavenly comes out.
I’m sure they have words for ‘woman’, ‘mother’, ‘sister’.
Jill has an EdD (easy doctoral degree) not a PhD, no thesis required.
I’m German, and as unique as weiners.
what did jillx bidenx say?
This is a really good thread.
First to the original poster Jill Biden was so “culturally insensitive” even I cringed and I don’t usually let that kind of thing bother me.
But on to food.
I like Cabrito but it must be eaten freshly cooked once the grease/fat has cooled even slightly it’s (to me anyway) no good and it does not reheat well at all.
The food posts here are more about TexMex cooking not so much Mexican food, they are related but not the same.
Surprised no on has mentioned the lowly Tamale. If you ever get the chance have tamales done in banana leaves as opposed to corn shucks, some of the best food I have ever eaten. That would be a pork or chicken tamale not some fruit thing like they do in South America.
Also some of the best tamales I have had were done by African American in Northeast Texas. Fusion is an overused word in cooking. But they were a fusion of TexMex and Carolina/Georgia style BBQ.
lol...good one!
Well San Antonio is the TexMex capital of Texas. El Paso is really South Western style Mexican food. Tamales are not really breakfast food they are however a Christmas tradition all over South Texas. Pork is the star ingredient and thin masa wraped never the thick masa of interior Mexico or the Yucatan. I have had some killer iguana tamales in the Yucatan that you would swear are dark meat chicken. Real Mexican food with mole and the like is found closer to the borders Laredo has real Mexican food as does Eagle pass. Breakfast tacos which was the original post are solidly TexMex especially anything with a flour tortilla in Mexico you will be shunned to even ask for flour everything is on corn.
I once walked into a lunch room at work where a group of northern Mexicans were engaged in an argument with a group of southern Mexicans about how you properly pronounce “taco”, it was on the verge of getting violent. With my very limited Spanish I was able to ascertain what was happening and defuse the situation - temporarily.
Did I mention they were all female? I never been more scared I was going to get cut.
Oh yes smoked pulled pork tamales are a east Texas thing. It’s a great way to use up all that left over pork shoulder. In Central Texas people do the same thing with left over brisket it gets chopped up and stuffed into masa. Or turned into chili con carne then coated over enchiladas or for a real Texican lunch brisket chilli con carne never any beans put over Fritos with raw onions, cheese and yellow mustard. Feral hog smoked for 10+ hours while and shreaded ends up in tamales often in Texas as well, same for chilli con carne.
Nothing better than a properly made tamale. Over the years I’ve been invited to tamale processing “parties” around Christmas time. Mostly to do scud work but the trade-off nice supply of tamales.
“He said the degrees he does most often are masters and PHDs for educators. Isn’t that great?”
I believe it. Hubby is a PhD in Physics and his career was with defense contractors. He said that as time passed the new PhDs being hired became more and more illiterate each year. The papers they had written for their doctorates were shameful.
He said the last group of employees who could write a paper, had a clue about grammar, respond to RFPs, etc., were the Boomers.
Huh. With a large Hispanic population in south Florida you’d think the local Miami media would cover this story.
I haven’t seen anything about it so far.
I am just posting what the president’s son calls his mom.
This is the really insulting part. They believe they can get Latinos to vote as a block, just like they’ve manipulated blacks for decades....except this isn’t remotely the same and isn’t going to work. If anything, it’ll have the opposite effect. The D’s can’t stop putting people in boxes and expecting them to vote that way.
You’re right... I should have written “EdD dissertation,” not “PhD thesis.”
We’ve got words to describe blond bimbos like her who are only good for one thing too.
