I predicted previously that the overturning of Roe v. Wade would not affect the outcome of the upcoming midterm Congressional elections. I still stand by that prediction, now that the Supreme Court has handed down its ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson. Nevertheless, folks on both sides of the aisle appear to believe that this development could increase Democrats’ chances of avoiding a total shellacking in November.
Now that Republicans have succeeded in overturning Roe, some have surmised that this could be a pyrrhic victory that comes back to haunt them later. Republican strategists told Politico that they are concerned that the court’s ruling might adversely impact the outcome of the upcoming congressional elections.
“This is not a conversation we want to have,” said John Thomas, one of the strategists. “We want to have a conversation about the economy. We want to have a conversation about Joe Biden, about pretty much anything else besides Roe … This is a losing issue for Republicans.”

“You go to any diner in America, and nobody’s talking about this,” said Dave Carney, a national Republican strategist. “That’s not what’s driving the conversation. Real people, working people, people who vote, are talking about the incompetence of the president, and then they go down the list of six or seven things.”

Democrats, for their part, escalated their rhetoric after the decision was handed down on Friday. When the court’s draft opinion was leaked in May, they began laying the groundwork for the campaign they would launch once the ruling was issued. Now, they are engaging in a full-court press to excoriate the overturning of Roe and using alarmist talking points to rile up their voting base.

Any comments in protest crowd sizes. I’ve been watching for what looks like big crowds but haven’t really seen them.
What I’ve seen are bigger than Biden rallys but still rather small.
The average swing voter has the memory capacity of a fruit fly. From now until the midterms is an eternity for them. Worry about whatever is going to happen two weeks from election day.

I'm not going to predict how important this issue will be to people in the fall.
I'm not going to predict how this might affect turnout for either Democrats or Republicans.
What I will do is note that I expect the media to say that this will be a huge issue in the Fall.
And then, when Democrats get 81 million votes in every race and sweep the elections and retain control of both House and Senate, the media will shrug and say "We told you people cared a lot about this."
It's a good cover story for the next steal.
They have all three branches right now, granted slim majorities but majorities nonetheless - let them bring it to the floor for a vote to legalize abortion in all 50 states! They won’t because they know they can’t get it to pass. This is just a fundraiser talking point for them now…

There are all too many who are still playing "My team" vs. "The other team", when in fact they're effectively the same team, and neither one is working very hard for better laws and better government.

Yep. We need to have reasonable restrictions on abortion. 15 weeks or 30 weeks. Each red state (and purple) needs to decide. Get that issue out of the way. Focus on the issues that Joe Biden is drowning on, he is trying to pivot away, don't let him do that!
If anything, we might be gaining a lot more minority votes than usual. A growing number of Americans of color are getting tired of all these woke white leftists shoving abortion and the LGBT lifestyle down their throats.
Won’t it motivate Republicans to vote more also. I mean at some point one has to decide am I going to cave every crybaby protest the Left brings or am I going to spite them and stand my ground. Are we going to be a country of laws or the favorite burning protest of the moment.
Exactly right. Conservatives will be even more FIRED Up now in marginal districts/states where a Governor, AG are extra state legislator can make the difference on protecting human life. Any GOP “strategist” saying otherwise is a Democrat plant as far as I’m concerned.

to the contrary, the pro-abortion crowd is not as large as they would like for us to think. I believe the protestors are tuning away the sympathetic and the shellacking of the left will be even greater.

and yes it motivates the pro life voter more than the pro abortion voter. Studies have shown.

Unless someone like McCarthy pushes making this a federal issue and advocates interfering with the States - to which most people have understood the issue to have been returned - we’re still fine.
As someone else has said, none of the ragers in the streets were going to vote Conservative anyway. And many Conservative voters tend to be moderate on this particular issue while also being strict Constitutionalists, and will probably see this decision as a very good thing.

Abortion effects VERY FEW people, less than 5% even think of it as a significant issue.
This ruling happened precisely when it ought to have happened. The rage, vandalsim, burning and violence that we’re about to see will remind the electorate that law and order are of utmost importance.
In addition, the inflationary tsunami will continue its assault on ALL income levels. Gas and groceries will continue to skyrocket, a recession is a foregone conclusion, the housing market is collapsing, rates are rising.
Abortion is am opinion for most and nothing more.
The rabid left will turn off more people than they will attract.
November 2022 will be a political reckoning that will expose Biden as the fraud that he is.
