Roe and Casey overruled. Roberts concurs.
SCOTUS ^ | June 24, 2022 | SCOTUSBLOG

There is nothing in the Constitution about abortion, and the Constitution does not implicitly protect the right.

Yes he did, that was a great moment in the debate. As of today, Trump overtakes Reagan for best president in my lifetime.

Donald Trump’s victory in 2016 ended the constitutional “right” to abortion. He has secured his place as one of the greatest and most consequential presidents in American history.— Michael Knowles (@michaeljknowles) June 24, 2022

And another thing Dissenters, aside from your joint opinion -- and it reads like you were smoking something -- your reliance on tired Warren Court tropes that have no founding in Originalist Constitutionalism, exposes how Last Century each of you really are ... and hey thanks Sotomayor for pre-releasing Alito's opinion -- by taking the surprise out of the box, there are not be more than 200 people in front of SCOTUS -- a fraction of the J6 tourists.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Clarence Thomas writes, in a concurring opinion, that the Supreme Court should reconsider Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell — the rulings that now protect contraception, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage.

Would Congress be invoking the Commerce Clause?

Why not? Since this is no longer a matter between a woman and her doctor, abortion now becomes a commercial transaction just like any other. Congress has the power to regulate that as they wish.

The Left is going to come guns blazing to undo this
Nannie P says abortion is "sacred." She has until Jan 3, 2023 to try to pack the court, legalize abortion in all federal jurisdictions and with federal funding, etc.

Mitch is a very pragmatic guy who embraces realpolitik. To him, it doesn't matter if you're right if you don't have the votes. So, his focus is on having as many Republican senators as possible, and keeping them sufficiently loyal so that he can count on their votes on truly critical issues.

That's why he always supports his incumbents - so that he has chips he can call in when he really needs their votes. That's also why he doesn't push members of his caucus for votes that hurt them politically unless the issue is a critical one. And it's sometimes why he'll cast strategic votes that may go against conservative principles if both 1) he sees it as providing political cover/advantage, and 2) it was going to pass anyway even without the extra votes.

Obviously, all of that can really tick off people angry about some of those votes, or angry that he isn't coming down hard on a particular GOP senator who voted the wrong way. But as he sees it, that is all necessary so that he can maximize votes on the truly critical issues.

That all paid off for this decision on abortion. Remember how many here were so sure that a couple RINOs would cross the line to confirm Garland? And then sure that Collins would later sink Kavanaugh? To the shock of many, they all stood together

The reason the GOP caucus stood united, and we got the justices who overturned Roe (and passed Trump's massive corporate tax reforms), was because Mitch McConnell is a freaking genius when it comes to wielding political power in the Senate.

God had nothing to do with this.

Deep State to prochoice women: Vote for us or we won’t fix this for you.

Deep State is blackmailing prochoice women.

Looks like we’ll find out if they can be blackmailed.

Note to prochoicers: Be advised, if Deep State can successfully blackmail you into voting for them once, they’ll keep right on doing it.

Here is the link to the opinion. It's a PDF. Roberts concurrence starts at 136.

By far the most important. This is actually even sweeter than Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton. We have begun to stem the tide of murderous killing of innocents.

PDF Of Opinion

Interestingly in this opinion is the following quote from Ginsburg on another case:

Justice Ginsburg’s opinion for the Court in Timbs is a recent example. In concluding that the Eighth Amendment’s protection against excessive fines is “fundamental to our scheme of ordered liberty” and “deeply rooted in this Nation’s history and tradition,” 586 U. S., at ___ (slip op., at 7) (internal quotation marks omitted), her opinion traced the right back to Magna Carta, Blackstone’s Commentaries, and 35 of the 37 state constitutions in effect at the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. 586 U. S., at ___–___ (slip op., at 3–7).

This is amusing because the Court is going to hear a case against the IRS on excessive penalties. This isn't a conservative issue. Ginsburg already told the overweening tyrants exactly what they don't want to hear on the subject.
