Don’t expect any fair and balanced replies from the trolls who have hijacked Free Republic.

It’s possible he was responding to the retirement of Pete Williams...

Tonight all the leftist media will be calling for packing the court.

I always frame these discussions in their historical context; what if the British invade from Canada? What if their Iroquois allies and Tories start raiding settlements again?

Better safe than sorry...

From what I’ve been hearing, “May Issue,” concealed carry permits are now gone. All states must become, “Shall Issue.”

changing the age to own those AR-15s - blatantly unconstitutional

also marking the bullets - technology for that doesn’t even exists.

“It’s possible he was responding to the retirement of Pete Williams...”

Yes, it’s possible. I just found that post humorous.

No, he did that for leverage. Problem is, none of what Mitch is about is for us. These decisions require no kudos to Mitch who jubilantly backstabbed us just yesterday on gun control with red flag laws that will destroy this win.

Never suck up to a man like that.

Here is a quote:

The states, including New York, that had used proper cause requirements “may continue to require licenses for carrying handguns for self-defense so long as those States employ objective licensing requirements like those used by the 43 shall-issue States.”

I live in Georgia. First time I filled out my app for my CCW it was 15 or so questions, some fingerprints and some money. The card looked like a laminated library card. Georgia caught up and started issuing a real card with a photo. Took about 15 minutes in the courthouse and 7 business days to get it in the mail

My dad, in NY, had to fill out a packet, get references, provide addresses and other background info. It was returned once because of a typo. Thankfully, a friend of his worked for the agency that processed his app and knew the guys so he was good to go. Took months. And that was only to have it in the house and go to the range.

That’s almost exactly what I just told a friend who sent me an item on this.

“Promising! But they’ll ignore it for the most part, while acting as if they’re complying. Fundamentally, our modern Left couldn’t care less about the law and the concept of equal treatment under it.”

I am wondering the same. You might have the right to carry, but do you still have to get a permit? If you have to get a permit, then it seems you really don’t have a right to carry, as it’s up to someone else to confer that right on you.

To follow up...

It appears that the states can apply “objective” standards to issue licenses. But, they cannot apply a “subjective” standard.

For example, everyone has to pass a firearm safety course. And a background check.

But, in some states there is no longer the requirement to point out why an individual has more of a need for concealed carry.

It also cleared up the distinction between self defense in the home and in public. While it stated there were “traditional” places that should be gun free, otherwise there is no distinction between self defense in your home and in the general public.

But in another case, the Supremes hold that a Miranda violation does not give grounds for a Sec. 1983 lawsuit for deprivation of civil rights. WTF?

Without knowing the details, I'd suggest that perhaps a procedural violation is not the same as a deprivation of civil rights.

“McConnell resisted intense pressures to keep Merrick Garland off the Supreme Court, “

He actually resisted intense pressure to get Garland ON the Supreme Court. But the three we got instead are problems for conservatism, especially Barrett and Kavanaugh. Garland might have had less power on SCOTUS with others to balance votes than he has now. He has too much power as AG.
