Pat McCrory says his political career is over — and asks what happened to the Republican Party

Pat McCrory’s campaign did not expect to win.

So instead of renting a hotel ballroom, their campaign event was at Selwyn Pub, a few blocks from his home in Myers Park.

There were about 50 people there.

They heard McCrory say he doesn’t know if he has a place in the Republican Party anymore.

“Now I have to do some real self-evaluation of where I belong. And not only me, it’s where these people belong in our party,” McCrory, gesturing to his well-wishers. “I want to make sure we maintain a sense of civility, a sense of character and accomplishment.”

McCrory lost to Rep. Ted Budd in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate by about 35 percentage points. McCrory did win his home county of Mecklenburg — but by less than 100 votes. Budd won everything else.

As McCrory spoke to his supporters — and then the media — one thing was missing: A call for his supporters to support Budd against Democrat Cheri Beasley in November.

“I have said I would (endorse) in the past but during the past several days it’s been said I’m a Republican In Name Only,” McCrory said. “And if they really meant it, I have to go through some real evaluation.”

“I want to make sure we maintain a sense of civility, a sense of character and accomplishment.”

It's nice to remember 1955, but it wasn't really like that then, either.

“Now I have to do some real self-evaluation of where I belong"

Pat, you lost by 35 points. No one cares where you think you belong

Pat McCrory may be a nice man, I don’t know. People who present as “nice” in public might not be, in real life.

However, NC Republican voters haven’t forgotten how he screwed up when he was in office. Why shouldn’t we have someone new?

What happened Pat is RINO’s stabbed us in the back last time and we’re complicit in a stolen election.

That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. We’ve long been dissatisfied with the RINO establishment and their broken promises to us - thus Trump. That was it though. Now we purge RINOs from the party.

McCrory, translated: Waaaah, Republicans now won’t vote for paid lackeys like me even though I’m an outstanding assistant Democrat. Waaah.

McCrory had the endorsement of Larry Hogan and Chris Christie.

That says it all.

If Dr. Oz won, then that may be a very good sign of things to come. He has no “natural” constituency and ran on two things: (1) name recognition; and (2) no political background. I have no confidence in his politics but I will be pleased to see voters pick a TV clown over feckless, tiresome politicians any day of the week.

Not really. They’ve got Oz or McCormick now, Chuck Edwards down in NC, Kemp or Perdue for their GA guv candidate, etc., etc.

I said I would vote conservative in the primaries and then vote fraud the Republican nominees in the general elections, but good Lord!

I am really, really, really not wanting to vote for Dr. Zer0

He will have triumphed over Goldman Sachs machine.

I don’t know where Oprah was in all of this but she might have been pulling strings behind the scenes

He could get a job at MSNBC by trashing the Ultra MAGA crowd. The left loves that!

It seems they just elected Dr oz..he will be just as bad.

He's only up by around 2000 votes -- well within the cheat margin. And surprise, surprise! There are STILL mail-in ballots that have not been counted.

The Mitch RINOs are using the same playbook as the Dems did in 2020.
