He inherit the Mom’s shoe collection?
The dude’s name is Bongbong Marcos. Seriously.
I wonder how many billions he will steal this time?
Will he change the drug laws
What are the drug laws in the Philippines?
Possession of even small amounts of any illicit drug in the Philippines attracts mandatory jail sentences. Police and other authorities have been publicly encouraged to kill suspected drug traffickers who resist arrest. Violating local laws may result in a jail sentence, served in a local prison. Sentences are severe.
Landslides are easy when you’re using “malfunctioning” cheat machines like we used in 2020.
LOL...BongBong, FangFang, F***F***
“Will he change the drug laws”
Pretty OBVIOUS by his name, BongBong.
Yep. And still, there are tons of “untouchable” drug dealers.
It used to be the typical criminal enterprise corrupt local officials (governors, mayors, police chiefs) were making money off of was the numbers racket (the usual term is “jueteng”). They took protection money from jueteng operators. President Joseph Estrada was impeached for taking jueteng payoffs from other public officials.
Ok, corruption is corruption, but jueteng, illegal gamblung though it is, is a mild sort of vice. These days though it is drugs, specfically “shabu”, crystal meth. Thats something much worse.
Very unlikely. The chains of corruption are well established, and they depend on illegality to bring income. And I dont think anyone there wants to legalize “shabu” (meth), its just too dangerous.
Bongbong was well known to have been a user in the old days, I dont know if he’s reformed. He is also well known for taking Biden-like availability “lids”, missing events and meetings, etc. He is “low energy”. There have been rumors for many years.
“Bong bong” is his nickname. He has an actual name nobody uses. These nicknames are normally bestowed in childhood and dont necessarily have a meaning. And they can come from a parent, a sibling, a servant, a playmate, and just get repeated till they are semi-official.
Its a sad person who lacks a nickname in that culture.
“Bong” is actually a very common nickname. I cant think of another “Bong bong” though. Maybe because he was the Presidents son he needed an intensifier to “Bong”. He was, after all, no ordinary “Bong”. Its typical to repeat a word as an intensifier or infinitive in Austronesian languages.
To the Freeper who tagged “Japan” for this article, I have an update for you. BREAKING:
General Yamashita and Admiral Okochi formally surrendered their forces at Camp John Hay, Baguio to ranking officers of the U.S. Army, including General Jonathan Wainwright.
That is all.
The received wisdom there is that the “grey eminence”, and financier, behind this Marcos - Daughterte (popular play on words there) team is former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, currently Speaker of the House. She is universally acknowledged to be the sharpest cookie in Philippine politics, and commands a lot of money and general respect.
If she is indeed actually in charge its a hopeful sign that someone responsible will be running things. Her term saw the fastest economic growth in Philippine history.
I just read on wikipedia that
“He and his mother are currently facing arrest in the United States and its territories for defying a court order to pay US$353 million in restitution to human rights abuse victims of his father’s dictatorship”
I wonder how that will work out in diplomatic visits
I found it interesting that among the Filipinos I know, they all have nicknames or alternative names. Sometimes you never even know their registered names
Most likely, along with the family political platform of cheating and stealing on a massive scale — but in an organized and orderly way.
ONE report said that Pres. Duterte had recovered a sizable sum of stolen money (billions, IIRC) by Ferie Marcos and that with the son in now, HE will get it back, and more.
Sarah as VP is a dangerous duo (imo) for the nation, especially regarding China and the invented military base in the S. China Sea.
I could and WOULD expat to the Province for the serenity of daily life, but Philippine politics is going to get weird (imo)
The youth vote for Robredo is SO like the youth vote for obama in America.
Lennie has told 'em to stay in the fight and there will be a next time.
Bong Bong is John John. Philippinos worshipped JFK
Had he not been killed in an air “accident” John John might be president in stead of Slo
