Major Company Bails on Crime-plagued Chicago(boing)

After 20 years in Chicago, Boeing has decided to end its relationship with the Windy City, which is plagued by high crime and a poor business environment.

While the company said it will maintain a “strong presence” in Chicago and the state of Illinois, its new global headquarters will be based in Arlington, Virginia.

“We are excited to build on our foundation here in Northern Virginia. The region makes strategic sense for our global headquarters given its proximity to our customers and stakeholders, and its access to world-class engineering and technical talent,” said Boeing President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Calhoun.

Crime is up 35 percent this year in Chicago compared to the same point in 2021, Bloomberg reports. "Though murders and shooting incidents are down, all other major categories of crime are up, including a 67% jump in thefts."

Oh, Arlington VA. Oddly, there are a lot of politicians in the area. Guess personal hand offs, uh hand shakes, yeah, hand shakes are easier with proximity? Gotta stay close to the policy makers ya know.

Most of Boeing’s business is federal—more stable money than the commercial market where they compete with Airbus—so no surprise they are relocating to become just another Beltway Bandit, which they already were.

Yup, makes way more sense than their original move to Chicago.

When a fascist governing system gets established, it makes sense for major corporations to put their headquarters in the nation’s capital. It’s easier to control their paid b!tches in government this way.

Washington DC. More access to government officials they can induce to give them contracts and to attack their enemies.

Crony Capitalism.

We see the same motives on this topic.

“Most of Boeing’s business is federal”

I don’t think so. About 1/3 is federal.

Wow, lots of critics here. This seems like just a good business decision to me. Boeing has always had a DC presence so not much new about that. Just exiting from a bad environment in Chicago.

I wonder if U-Haul has enough trucks to support the exodus from Chicago and other Dem hell-holes? Probably have long waiting lists.

I wonder when White\Latin\Asian Americans will start to think Blacks ARE what our grandparents thought of them. A culture of violent, defective, lazy, criminals.

Arlington VA

Fed.gov and the MIC are what will keep Boeing alive in the next years.

Surprised they didn’t go to Washington DC area years ago

Don't kid yourself. You should assume that every Boeing aircraft sold to a foreign airline is effectively a federal contract.

Case in point ... In the early 1990s, Ukraine International Airlines became the first air carrier from a former Soviet republic to purchase Boeing aircraft. Does anyone think it's just a coincidence that their paid shills like Lindsey Graham and Nimrata Haley are two of the biggest globalist stooges in the Beltway clamoring for U.S. intervention in Ukraine?

Boeing is actually one of the last aircraft builders to move at least some administration to northern Virginia. All the big defense and space companies are here, too, except for Space X.

People tried to tell Boeing when they moved to Chicago, that it was a big mistake. They didn’t listen.

They can also get away with things not flying, i.e. the SLS and Star-Liner.
