It’s not too much to ask that Congress debate and vote on whether to authorize a U.S. march to war that’s now well underway.
The New York Times claimed this week that the United States is providing real-time battlefield intelligence to Ukraine that has enabled the Ukrainians to target and kill approximately a dozen Russian generals, and helped >locate and strike the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet last month.
Described as a “classified effort,” the U.S. provision of targeting intelligence to Ukraine “also includes anticipated Russian troop movements gleaned from recent American assessments of Moscow’s secret battle plan for the fighting in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine,” according to the Times.
The Times’ reporting relies on anonymous “senior American officials,” but if true it represents a sharp and unprecedented escalation of U.S. involvement in the Russo-Ukrainian war, such that Congress should immediately debate and vote on whether to authorize the use of military force in Ukraine.
Indeed, providing real-time targeting intelligence brings the United States right up to the line of belligerence, and arguably over it. The Biden administration seems to understand this. According to the Times, the administration “has sought to keep much of the battlefield intelligence secret, out of fear it will be seen as an escalation and provoke President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia into a wider war.”
The White House is right to fear this outcome, because it’s entirely possible that Putin will absolutely consider this level of battlefield participation by the United States tantamount to an act of war. That’s no doubt why the Biden administration snapped into damage control mode after the Times story about targeting intelligence published on Wednesday.

The Constitution didn't create a regime like the Dutch Republic of the early 18th Century, where military decisions had to be sent back to parliament for approval.
The Constitution forces a choice on Congress: either (a) cut the defense budget and reduce the military's size and avoid or repudiate treaty obligations that entangle the US in military affairs all over the globe; or, (b) react to perceived threats and interests by funding a huge military and intel apparatus that has the effect of putting the President in the driver's seat.
All this, "Congress needs to approve" twaddle is a product of political wrangling over the Vietnam War and has no legal precedent behind it.

If that's the plan, it isn't working. Plus a large number of American's realize that the Ukraine war is yet another dumpster fire caused by the corrupt incompetence of this illegitimate regime.
Biden's approval ratings are the lowest ever recorded since 1945 despite the ceaseless efforts of the media propaganda corps to prop up this filthy regime.
Only congress can declare war. What the US is doing are clearly acts of war. But hey, you won’t have to fight it. So who cares, right?
An event is not the cause of a war until the other side wants it to be. The US Navy, while running convoy protection in WWII was under orders to destroy U-boats if the opportunity afforded itself. They dropped depth charges and they took torpedoes. One American ship was sunk. This is why Hitler declared war after Pearl Harbor. He figured we were already at war, and he could strike first and do enough damage to knock Britain out of the war.
The Japanese bombed the USS Panay in China. They apologized but there was no doubt it was on purpose. The US is not beyond provoking or even faking an attack as a cause of war, the Tonkin Gulf incident comes to mind. But no war will be declared until the other side decides it is to its advantage to do so.
I’d say we are playing a dangerous game and the guy leading us is not up to playing it without tipping his hand.
As far as killing Ukrainian citizens: Now they're Ukrainians? I thought they were helpless oppressed Russians yearning for reunification with the rodina.
Congress is too busy with drug-fueled orgies to vote on something unimportant like that.
