Zelenskyy warns of war in Donbas like 'the world has not seen in hundreds of years' as Russia masses troops for a new offensive on the eastern front

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday warned of fighting in Donbas that could result in the biggest war in centuries.

Speaking to the German newspaper BILD, owned by Axel Springer, Insider's parent company, Zelenskyy predicted intense fighting in the coming days.

"It could be a big war in Donbas — like the world has not seen in hundreds of years," he told BILD reporter Paul Ronzheimer.

"We will go on defending our country until the end," the Ukrainian president continued.

This chilling forecast echoes what Ukraine's foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba told NATO members on Thursday.

"The battle for Donbas will remind you of the Second World War," Kuleba said.

He used this warning to immediately call on Western allies to provide more heavy weaponry, including air defense systems, artillery, armored vehicles, and jets.

I’d like to think we’d do the same thing if invaded; will be pretty close after May 23d when we’ll be invaded on our southern border.

That’s just because the Ukes are better at PR than the Rukes.

Even if there are 20k dead Russians, they won’t care. That’s one of their strengths as a military strategy, the ability to absorb deep losses.

Just keep in mind that the Russians are the invaders. Also, that they signed the same agreement we signed which “assures” sovereignty and borders for Ukraine, in exchange for dismantling nuke weapons. The Ukes honored the agreement, the Rukes violated it twice by invading, and we are busy looking for ways to abrogate our responsiblities.

If we can’t be trusted on such an important issue as nuke nonproliferation, then we are all doomed.

I just find it amusing how people can invent artificial demons and then set out to collectively slay them.

Whether Russian or Ukrainian.

Ethnically, nearly identical.

It would be like existential war between the US and Canada.

Uraine's Donbas army has had seven years to dig in and my understanding is they've constructed an elaborate maze of trenches and mine fields.

Trench warfare would be something not seen in 100 years.

Likewise Ukraine can do whatever they please until/unless some other force determines their future.

Out of curiosity, do you maintain the same do-gooder zeal for intervention in Yemen, Syria, Myanmar, DRC etc?
More atrocious activity there than Ukraine.

If not, why not?

I made no claims to rights.

I don’t believe that there is now, or ever has been, something called “rights” between countries.

Throughout history ever element of international dealing has been a power relationship.

However, recently 12yr old girls have started a petition to compel a Bill of Rights for countries based on...you guessed it...Right and Wrong!

You get the impression from news reports that 20,000 Russian soldiers have died, but only about 200 Ukrainian soldiers.


And, of course, 18 million Ukrainian civilians, almost all of whom happened to be in the train station to get the last train to Clarksville when a Russian missile hit the place.

I think it's clear we're being led to believe that Ukraine is something more than a Russian speedbump.

The Ukes do not have fuel and ammo.
And, the Russians would simply destroy the re-supply convoys
