This is not a war between Ukraine and Russia. It is a war between the USA and Russia, in which both sides are cynically using Ukraine as a battering ram.
The people of Ukraine will gain nothing and lose much from being treated in this way. They fight and die or lose their homes and flee. We pour in more weapons and shout encouragement from a safe distance. Russia wrecks the joint. ...
I am sorry to say that there are people in the USA who will not be sad if this war drags on.
A ‘senior diplomat’ was quoted on Friday, by a commentator with ready access to the great and the good, as saying: ‘If you look at all the options, our strategic interest is probably best served in a long war, a quagmire that drains Putin militarily and economically so he cannot do this again.’
This is no doubt true. Since the American neo-conservative politician Paul Wolfowitz set out his ‘doctrine’ in 1992, Washington has wanted to crush any revival of Russian power. The flaw with this scheme is that it was, in fact, China that was the threat, not Russia. But there you are. Mr Wolfowitz, a keen backer of the disastrous Iraq war, is not as clever as he thinks he is.
It is this policy which explains the otherwise mad expansion of Nato, against the warnings of every qualified expert in the world. It also explains the taunting of Russia by President George W. Bush’s 2008 suggestion that Ukraine should actually join Nato.
This came just a year after Vladimir Putin, still more or less open to reason, said very clearly that he’d had enough and that Nato expansion should stop.

Russia might have been our friend, had we treated Russia in 1991 the same way we treated Germany in 1945.
Germany had total surrender; with reparations. Is that what people wanted in 1991?
This is his Project for a New American Century, a blueprint that Dick Cheney was prominent in drafting.
Everybody who is in power wants to stay in power, and not a one of them gives one hoot about the people who are affected, as long as they remain in power. This goes for Putin, Zelensky, Burden, every Democrat in Congress, every Republican in Congress, and it holds true for your local school board, sheriff, or town council member, too.
The United States should have never invaded Ukraine!
Oh, wait...
Nope.
Russians and Germans are not the same.
Just because the wall fell doesnt mean all the communists went away and embraced different ideology.
Theres plenty still there and even Gorby is still a communist as the Green Cross is a socialist front organization.
Does the article itself make the ludicrous assertion about driving Russia back to the Stone Age or just the headline?
We want to put pressure on oil/gas prices so we can sell people or should I say, drag them kicking and screaming into the green age.
The last president talked about energy independence and got out of the way of the economics behind the effort. The new jackass’s puppets tell him he has to go green, so step one is to raise the prices of the cheap effective current option.
And the Ukrainians either flee or die.
Good information, thanks.
I’ve also heard that Biden is so weak and stupid, Russia can lob nukes at our east coast and China at our west and wipe out millions of people. Fallout could wreck farmland in between. Bye-bye USA. Hopefully not good info.
Russia can stop this war at any time.
Russia was never going to be our friend after Putin took power. But we could be at peace if not for the Democrats AKA deep state. Trump had this mostly under control but was sabotaged on all fronts. Horrible tragedy.
LOL, our “friend.”
I hope they do realize that if they start lobbing nukes, the powers that be like Soros and Schwartz won’t HAVE anyone to rule in their Great Reset, because within a year or so, everyone will be DEAD from radiation.
Anyone who wants a nuke war, OR believes that’s it’s survivable, much less winnable, is stark, raving insane and does NOT belong in a position of power. ANYWHERE
Your “Dr Evil” bogey man is 91....only thing he is taking over these days is his pudding cup.
Putin is a monster, but the Russian people are not monsters, so the Russian people should not pay for Putin’s sins.
Russophobia is a bizarre poison pushed by warmongering globalists.
Driving Russia away from The West drives Russia further and further into the deadly embrace of China.
That accelerates the problem of the growing power of China.
Imagine China with control over Russian land and Russian natural resources.
That would basically redefine the word superpower.
Meanwhile, The West’s idiotic economic war against Russia is damaging what needs to be a free flow of fuel, fertilizer, and food between countries of European heritage in the Northern Hemisphere.
That free flow of fuel, fertilizer, and food is necessary for humanitarian reasons and for economic reasons, including fighting against inflation, and also for economically disempowering terrorist countries of the Middle East.
It is never good for one country to invade another country. Putin invaded Ukraine, and that was bad.
But people should make no mistake: Biden wants this. Biden wants a wider war. This is not Biden siding with Ukraine to stop Putin The Bad Guy. This is Putin the Bad Guy making Joe Biden very, very happy.
WWI would not have happened if the world had told Austo-Hungary: “Sorry Bosnia killed your Archduke. But we’re not getting involved.”
WWIII (or whatever number you please) wouldn’t happen if the world had told Ukraine: “Sorry Putin is a jerk. But we’re not getting involved.”
Uh? We treated Germany by having it divided under the Soviets? Is that what you want for Russia ? And Germany was kept down and occupied by several countries. Doh. The Soviet Union’s fall never implied getting rid of the Soviet deep state and Denazification
One would hope. Does senile rank as stark raving, insane?
