Jesse Watters tried to pull one over on Mel Gibson in an interview aired Friday on Fox News, asking the veteran actor, director and producer about the Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars incident.
But it quickly became apparent Gibson had no interest in discussing the matter — and Fox News and Watters had been told as much beforehand.
"You understand it probably better than a lot of people, with your career," Watters led in with, transitioning from the topic of Gibson's latest movie, "Father Stu," which they had discussed for nearly five minutes (see the full interview below). "And I was wondering if, you know, you had been the one that jumped up out of his seat and slapped Chris Rock, if you would have been treated the same way, Mel?"
A grinning Gibson then points his finger into the camera, spreads his hand and shakes his palm, as if to say, "No, don't do that," before an off-camera voice cuts things off.

He did talk about her medical condition. Will was wrong to attack him, but it wasn’t a normal joke.
Agree. Ambush journalism. Jesse needs to figure what he wants to do with his show. There's no focus.

Sounds like Mel offered the right response, which is to his credit and not Jesse's.
Besides, we all know the answer to the hypothetical question. There would have been a cut to a commercial break and the program wouldn't come back on until the offender had been hauled out by security, to be followed on daytime TV programming and in social media with guilt and angst for having hit a little guy who was just joking around.
Why try to gin up racial controversy by dragging Mel Gibson into it?
Just days before the Oscars she was bragging about her bald head. She literally said that she loved it and didn’t care what others thought of it. So, no, I’m not buying that excuse. It was a mild kidding at best.
Mel is one of the greatest actors evah! Braveheart was a masterpiece.
Mel has a lot more class than the interviewing dweeb.
FWIW, I just watched "Dragged Across Concrete" on HBO. It was nothing like the trailer. I enjoyed it but it was disturbing and one of those films that I kept thinking about after it ended.
Me should have slapped Jesse.

FWIW, Apocalypto is a great movie. Mel Gibson reminds me of Clint Eastwood. I’m glad we have both.
AMEN to that! Perfectly cast, well written, acted and directed. Fantastic storyline that grabs you from early on and never lets go. And most importantly - JUST a (very compelling) story. No political innuendo or outright proselytizing.
Braveheart was probably one of the very last decent movies to have ever been made. Things have gone to total and complete crap since then (1995 IIRC) in terms of movie making. It's tragic, as we used to LOVE a good movie - to the point we built a pretty nice theater in the basement..just to watch movies like Braveheart. No longer own that house, but sure do miss going down there to watch Braveheart for the 100th or so time :)
