Russia has agreed to “fundamentally cut back” military activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv in order to “increase mutual trust” in a step towards a peace deal with Ukraine.
Russia’s deputy defence minister Alexander Fomin says Russia will "radically reduce" military activity outside the two cities, reports have claimed.
Mr Fomin said Moscow has decided to “fundamentally cut back military activity in the direction of Kyiv and Chernihiv” in order to “increase mutual trust for future negotiations to agree and sign a peace deal with Ukraine”, according to Russian news agency Tass.

Let’s hope so. The farmers need to plant their fields and the world needs fertilizer.
It’s over. The Neocon cheerleaders can put down their pom poms. Russia controls the utilities and the major roads. The deal is already cut. The only question left is does Biden still get to be Mr 10% or does the EU take a piece from him in exchange for Ukraine membership.
A battle to take Kyiv would be manpower and equipment intensive, and probably very costly. A lot of supplies need to be accumulated before undertaking something like that. If the general staff is squawking about the task then Putin may have decided to lay off Kyiv and redeploy his forces to the eastern part of Ukraine so that he can get more decisive results there in time to affect a peace settlement.
It is good for everyone involved to step back from the brink of World War Three and focus on getting the free flow of fuel, fertilizer, and food back on track.
Just read Paul Kengors article in Spectator. He knows the Russians

They are having a hard time getting their units resupplied even though Russia is next door and Belarus is their ally and allows their land to be used for staging and transit.
RETREAT!..................

We are in over our heads. Time to cut our losses...
Kiev
That’s how I see it. They are recoiling into a defensive position in the West and increasing the tempo in the East. The only question seems to be ‘where does the line get drawn?’ When the war first started I believed Putin might try to divide Ukraine at the Dnieper river, which would seem to be a good natural boundary, like the Rhine serves for France and Germany. I now believe his goals will be more modest and limited to the two breakaway provinces...
I know, that new spelling annoys me also.
If Russia and Ukraine can make peace is it possible that World War 3 can be avoided on free Republic and make peace here between the Putin lovers and the Zelensky lovers?
I was never as excised over the disagreements as others might have been. It’s good to argue, it’s what makes us different from the lockstep commies...
In my opinion, the operation around Kiev is meant to pin a large portion of Ukrainian forces in the northwest while the Russians solidify their land corridor to Crimea in the southeast. It seems like the latter objective is now nearly accomplished. I would assume that an armistice at this point would trade that corridor for a withdrawal of Russian forces from the vicinity of Kiev and other areas of the north.
Sure, I believe that!
Just like I believe that Hitler pulled back his divisions from the Soviet Union, all the way back to Berlin, in order to demonstrate his "good will" and pave the way for peace negotiations.
Regards,
Not likely, IMHO.
All this does is close one chapter, Ukraine, and get us ready for the next, Taiwan.
Looks like Russia retreating from Kyiv. But likely to transfer military assets to Donbass fight.
“First signs that some Russian troops are indeed retreating from the Kyiv direction. Large numbers of BMDs with Russian and VDV flags were spotted today on their way from the Ukrainian border to Belarus’ Rechitsa and Gomel where they were loaded onto railway platforms.”

how that word ‘excised’ ended up there is beyond me... I was never as ‘worked up...’
Gee...seems like this is only a piece...No matter what...Kyiv is doing clean up...and that takes man power...
