Ukraine claimed a major victory Sunday against invading Russian forces, saying its military had fought back and retaken full control of the nation’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, amid heavy warfare.
“Control over Kharkiv is completely ours!” regional Gov. Oleh Synyehubov crowed in a triumphant Facebook post.

In the fwiw department General Milley of the JCOS said Kyev and Ukraine would fall in 72 hours.
Well, not so much.
ESAD Milley.

Most folks forget that nearly every Ukrainian has Russian family members and vice versa. Russia has no desire to level Ukraine and kill so many Russian civilians.
Well, how long has it been since Soviet troops were really in true combat? The 1980s with the Afghanistan war? Troops that are poorly trained and have not actually been in or even near combat may not perform well. The muzzies have been in combat and beat the Russians pretty good. We though have been in constant combat basically since the first gulf war back in the 1990s. Our people are used up, tired, wounded, and we run through them like bullets through a machine gun. I have seen many of the local NG troops around here and they are tired. They are always out doing something. The men and women who come to Fort McClellan, AL to train have been to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Israel, Syria areas, etc., for years. Some of the senior NCOs I have spoken with have spent practically more time on active duty than they have at their civilian jobs over the past 20+ years.
Putin now has sent into Ukraine two-thirds of the forces he had assembled on the border
Also, Lukashenko ordered Belarus army units into Ukraine to join the assault on Kyiv
I think Putin is pushing all his chips to the center of the table now (the ruble is crashing, bank runs in Russia, more stinger and anti-tank weapons coming in, growing dissent at home)
Some are saying well, maybe the final one-third are Putin’s finest troops, they will be held for later
I doubt it, one-third of the army is conscripts. I think these are mostly troops not suitable to be effectively sent in as well as troops to defend and administer his supply lines there in Russia and Belarus
What he has, he is rolling the dice on
Time for some General to put out Putin’s light.
Also we forget that there are thousands of Cossacks in Central Ukraine. Any bets on whether both their men and women civilians are under arms with the rest of Ukraine emulating the Cossaks?
Zalensky said on TV “ “Glory to Ukraine” and old Cossack battle cry. The response battle cry pf the tropps is
“Glory to our Heroes!”
The Cossack tradition is playing a big part in what is happening iin Ukraine right now.
BREAKING ON FOX 6:23pm est; White House releases statement, Biden is getting regular briefings at his Delaware home.
Phew! And here I though he was fast asleep after his pudding dessert.
Joe or Hunter?
Hunter is getting regular ____ from his gal pal.
In my lifetime, we've gone from being the largest creditor nation on earth to being the largest debtor nation. And yet we not only haven't cut back on spending on frivolities, we're shoveling the money out the door faster than ever.
I don't know if or at what point it ends, but I suspect that there will eventually be a reckoning. I'm glad I'm old enough that it probably won't happen in my lifetime.
I read an interesting book one time, "1177 BC, The Year Civilization Collapsed" by Eric Kline. As I recall, his contention was that it was the interconnectedness of the major civilizations at the time that led to the collapse of so many all at once. Whether he's right or wrong, just the inconveniences due to supply chain issues fairly recently has got me thinking about that again.
Russia controls Kharkiv...Dnipro is next.
actually that was the Holodomar (Ukrainian) and happen in the early to mid 30s when Stalin wanted collectism of all the farms. also happen in the Volga River basin.
Also, the Russian military has changed quite a lot since the Chechen war and Grozny.
The “victories” are moving ever deeper into Ukraine.
I’ve heard this same rumor from a Ukrainian friend now living in Western Europe. But if their cellphones were confiscated, how did they get on Tinder and try to flirt with the Ukrainian ladies?
https://www.the-sun.com/news/4757640/russian-soldiers-tinder-ukraine/
The c”ellphone videos of Russian soldiers” may not really be Russian soldiers. If real, they are speaking under duress, trying to mitigate their “guilt” before their captors.
You have to be careful with all the stuff floating around on social media, and coming out of the “regular” media, too.
Yep, absolutely take everything with salt
IIRC the earliest account of this I read about the cellphones was in the context particularly of conscripts
it’s an extremely one sided fight and Russia is obviously not being all that serious about laying the hurt down
I guess that’s why the country has (not) fallen?
1. I think the Ukrainians have been “winning”.
2. It’s only been a few days.
How far will Putin go how long will he continue with this? My guess would be he will keep going. But the situation is costly and full of risk, so who knows.
Since the show trials of the ‘30s Russian generals have been creatures of the Party no matter their competence. Putin is the Party the Hitler was the National Socialist Party . Even Stalin was limited after WW2 by the Politburo, who likely poisoned him. Putin has no Politburo and his generals are loyal. If a move is to be made it must come from some other circle. Maybe the oligarchs who don’t wish to see the fruits of their wealth inhaled into and changed into isotopes by a mushroom cloud.
