What is behind recent pessimistic appraisals of democracy's future, from Hillary Clinton, Adam Schiff, Brian Williams and other elite intellectuals, media personalities, and politicians on the Left? Some are warning about its possible erosion in 2024. Others predict democracy's downturn as early 2022, with scary scenarios of "autocracy" and Trump "coups."
To answer that question, understand first what is not behind these shrill forecasts.
They are not worried about 2 million foreign nationals crashing the border in a single year, without vaccinations during a pandemic. Yet it seems insurrectionary for a government simply to nullify its own immigration laws.
They are not worried that some 800,000 foreign nationals, some residing illegally, will now vote in New York City elections.
They are not worried that there are formal efforts underway to dismantle the U.S. Constitution by junking the 233-year-old Electoral College or the preeminence of the states in establishing ballot laws in national elections.
They are not worried that we are witnessing an unprecedented left-wing effort to scrap the 180-year-old filibuster, the 150-year-old nine-person Supreme Court, and the 60-year tradition of 50 states, for naked political advantage.
They are not worried that the Senate this year put on trial an impeached ex-president and private citizen, without the chief justice in attendance, without a special prosecutor or witnesses, and without a formal commission report of presidential high crimes and misdemeanors.

Scarecrow argument. They hate democracy.
They are talking about the end of their reign of terror.
They define “democracy” as “where we rule everything.”
Just like they define everything else in relationship to them - anyone to the right of them is a right wing nutjob, etc.
The reason they’re desperate now is they’re getting old and dying. When I was briefly a student activist back in the 90s, I was told by a local Dem party leader that the party figured they had maybe 20-25 years to gain and cement power or demographics would increasingly be the end of their chances at power. They realized they’d aborted the next generation of Dems, by and large, and their major talent pool would start dying off... right about now. And gee, look what’s happened.
Their definition of democracy is what Putin is now pointing out as the reemergence of Western fascism - tyrants taking power through mob rule. That is what they are worrying about the collapse of, not the conservative definition of classical liberal constitutional democracy.

The left realizes that most people are too uninformed to understand Constitutional Republic (of which ours calls for a representative republic). Democracy is easy to understand and sounds “fair”. A democracy carters to the majority with no voice of the minority at all. This is exactly wha the left wants. The SoCal coast and New England coast will be the will that is carried out, leading to an dictatorship of leeches which will then implode.
However, all of the current liberals and next generation will be taken care of as the rest of the country spirals into chaos and complete anarchy.
This will again eventually evolve into a democracy and the cycle will continue.

When a Leftist talks about “democracy”, he really means “socialism”. Just substitute the words and their statements make sense.

I hate democracy too. It is extremely stupid for our side to call our Representative Republic a democracy. We’re playing the leftards language games when we do.
