Record number of US adults say they identify as LGBTQ - more than double in the last decade - a trend led by Gen Z, new poll reveals

More than double the number of Americans in the U.S. say they identify as LGBTQ than they did a decade ago, a trend led by Gen Z, results from a new Gallup poll revealed this week.

A record 7.1 percent of Americans identify as straight or heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, a percentage which is up from 3.5 percent of Americans in 2012. It has been steadily increasing since the poll began.

The poll also found that 86.3 percent of Americans say they are straight or heterosexual, while 6.6 percent did not offer their orientation.

Gallup estimates from these results that within the entire U.S. adult population, 4.0 percent of Americans identify as bisexual, 1.5 percent as gay, 1 percent as lesbian and 0.7 percent as transgender.

The number of Americans identifying as bisexual is far higher among younger generations.

The Gallup poll found nearly 21 percent of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ, which is nearly double the number of millennials who do, which is 10.5 percent. Nearly one in six Gen Z LGBTQ adults identify as bisexual.

The poll also found significant gaps between the younger and older generations with baby boomers at 2.6 percent.

Considering that many colleges offer incentives, including SCHOLARSHIPS, for identifying as a sexual pervert, it’s no surprise that people are buying into is.

When you expand the acronym of perversion to include every possible permutation of perversion, that wide net catches quite a few.

In the pre-Stonewall days when these behaviors were suppressed, research showed that while as many as 4% "identified" as LGBT in late teens through their 20s, the percentage who stayed that way steadily decreased in the 30 and above age groups. Sufferers either realized we're not made to be that way; improved their self-esteem in the workplace, resolved whatever childhood or adolescent dilemma pushed them in that direction, rejected the many "yuck" factors of the actual gay lifestyle, etc.

I'd still like to see a reputable study of the numbers of people "identifying" as LGBT who were sexually abused as children. Research into any cause except "born that way" has been shut down and the proponents of it vilified.
