Netflix loses nearly $45 billion in market cap after ‘borderline catastrophic’ forecast' showed almost 3.5M FEWER subscribers for 2022 first quarter

Netflix dashed hopes for a quick rebound after forecasting weak first-quarter subscriber growth on Thursday, sending shares sinking nearly 20 percent and wiping away most of its remaining pandemic-fueled gains from 2020, just a week after raising prices by up to $2 a month.

The streaming platform projected it would add 2.5 million customers for the first quarter of 2022 - January through March - less than half of the 5.9 million analysts had initially forecast.

Netflix tempered its growth expectations, citing the late arrival of anticipated content, such as the second season of Bridgerton, and the film The Adam Project.

So unlike those who have options such as the netflix situation

Kudos to you for recognizing a hypocritical slip, few do. We all live connected to some degree, but again, in my defense, Netflix came to me via a T Mobile plan that saved me app. $35 dollars a month, over Verizon, ironically enough. If my Plan removed Netflix tomorrow, I wouldn't independently subscribe. I'd move right to whatever YouTube offers free.

Peace.

part of Amazon Prime, which had 2-3 good shows like Miss Maisel and Bosch.

Amazon Prime...I was telling my wife that Amazon Prime is where sophomore film students are able to get their movies posted. I think youtube is more discerning.

I hope he can do it and revive the destroyed Star Wars and Marvel universes. He should start by making SW Ep 7-9 non-canon.

He'd make bank just releasing the original, unmodified (meaning un-screwed with), Han-Shot-First trilogy on Blu-ray.

Tell you what, If I did not need an internet connection for my development work, and needing to maintain a forum, I could indeed live without internet at all and would dump Verizon in a heartbeat to stand on principle.

Content is king, but Netflix is the king of ‘Short Attention Span Theater’. Doesn’t matter how good the show or ratings, they’ll cancel it after a couple seasons, and then leave it to rot on their tree.

Too many other streaming providers starting to each their lunch.

“Content is king.”

yep, and netflix is running out of content, mainly because NO ONE is making decent content anymore and haven’t for a few decades, and netflix-produced “originals” are totally stupid and unwatchable ... after a few years of subscribing, there’s literally nothing worth watching and you start contemplating rewatching stuff you’ve already seen ... every so often, netflix adds new old stuff, but there’s a reason you’ve never hear of these old movies and such: they totally sucked then and they suck even more now ...

Not that I’m homophobic, but every stinkin’ Netflix Original movie or series has to have some sort of LGBTQ++??!! crap in it that isn’t necessary for the plot.

Netflix came to me via a T Mobile plan that saved me app.

Mine did as well. I'm not sure about you, but mine started as "free", but Netflix has had a couple of price increases since then that T-Mobile didn't cover. So my T-Mobile bill reflects the difference. I believe Netflix has another price increase coming very soon as well. I don't expect T-Mobile to cover it.

I think they're doomed as was Blockbuster. All of the "plus" services are siphoning subscribers. Netflix and "streaming" used to be practically synonymous. Now they all kind of hang by the thread of the addictiveness of one or two shows that they provide.

When you stop for a moment and assess, you find that you're paying 8-10 bucks a month for ONE show. They've got 99% other trash that you don't want and will never want. That's not just Netflix, that's everybody.

What used to be an awesome cost-saving alternative to cable, financially becomes as costly as cable. I suppose they'll always find a way to siphon the entertainment dollars.

One of the only things that they've still got going for them over traditional cable is their month-to-month, cancel anytime, policies. If they were to force people to commit to a year or pay a cancellation fee, there'd be a reckoning.

As an aside, I could have done without "Squid Games". And if Netflix is counting on more content like that to stay afloat and justify price increases, they'll be gone soon.

NO ONE is making decent content anymore and haven’t for a few decades

I disagree with that statement but understand that it is purely subjective. What's brilliant to me could be trash to you.

Ozark is decent content. Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul is decent content. Yellowstone is decent content. Say what you will about "Handmaid's", but overall I've enjoyed it. Lillehammer was a fun one. Haven't seen 1883 yet, but I suspect I'll enjoy it and likely also 6666.

That's off the top of my head. Of course, the quality of that content is 100% subjective.

The problem I see is that the "decent" content is scattered out over like seven different providers. So they draw you into seven subscriptions that end up costing more than you ever paid back in the day for "straight cable".

....I quit Netflix 30 minutes after they announced a partnership with Obama.

Obama to me, among many other things, is a proven beyond all doubt America hater.

All I can say is GOOD! Let’s hope Netflix goes bankrupt. Then we just have the MSM outlets to shutter.

Completely agree. One side effect of lockdown. I learned more of what I needed and didn’t need. Superfluous life simulation story telling is not high on the list of need. I need t.p. more than t.v.

It started to become unwatchable about the time Obama left office. Rumor was he, or a fellow traveler, was put on the board.
