SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.
The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.
"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."
Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.
"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.
in the past I never walked by a SA kettle without dropping in some amount, large or small. This year I have not given one penny.

Yup. This.
Stopped donating to United Way I guess about 30 years ago. I learned about their support for abortion. I learned that even though they PROMISE that you can specify which charity you’re supporting and your money will go there, that was a lie — it ALL goes to the big bucket and THEY decide where it goes.
As an HR employee I was assigned to manage one year’s United Way effort. I objected strongly. Funny thing; that year the donations were pitifully small. Another funny thing: I never was given that assignment again.
People of color are the ones w their hands out.
“Where I’ve seen SA bell ringers this year, I have not seen one person putting any money in the kettles.”
Here in east TN, many places where I’ve seen SA bell ringers in the past, there aren’t even kettles!
I’m too white to donate to the SA this year. They made it clear my participation is not wanted.
Every year my wife would write two $100 checks to the Salvation Army. Not this year, that money went to tornado relief. I seriously doubt we will trouble them again with our white racist donations. Come to think of it, rural Western Kentucky is pretty white. Must be the racist in me and their white privilege.
Cry me a river.
You made your bed.
Now lay in it................
Get WOKE, go broke.
Go woke, go broke. I’m done with the Salvation Army now that I’m aware of its International Social Justice Commission. That’s the body that promoted that controversial “Let’s Talk About Racism” screed about white guilt, that was hastily scrubbed from its web site. The term “social justice” is nothing more than code for whites are bad and capitalism is evil.
Get Woke, Go Broke!
.
Interesting.
Yep, the SA made their bed now they have to lie in it. FYI, I donate to St Vincent DePaul in my town. They run a large food pantry here and they also use cash donations to help the poor with rent and other necessities.
it is not racial its sociological...The woke crowd is made up of narcissists. this group doesn’t do anything unless it is about them. Donating without an audience does nothing for their low self-esteem...Donating to a bell ringer or dropping toys off at a drop of point gets you none of the alkyds that SJW and CRT adherents want because it is anonyms in nature.
That may not be the only reason. Remember this story is headlined from Seattle where most probably are on board with the Salvation Army using material from CRT advocated in their training. More likely donations are down because people do not have as much discretionary income as they have had in years past. There is also the competition from other charities which may be seen as being friendlier to LGBTQWTH.
I used to participate in the Angel Tree program when I was working. I stopped when the requests went from simple ones such as a set of Hot Wheel cars to eye popping ones such as a brand new Playstation.
Over the course of my career I’ve seen more SA volunteers and red kettles in midtown Manhattan than anywhere else in the country. Even without the CRT fiasco I’m sure the Salvation Army would be seeing a drop in contributions just from all the Americans in urban areas who have been working from him for most of the last two years.
I dumped them!
Use as necessary...
Get woke, go broke.
Yes, and now when the donations dry up because you and I have stopped making it a point to have a respectable load of coin to drop in the kettle each time, guess who’s gonna get the blame when the bottom drops out of their revenue for the year?
Our local police department are gathering new unwrapped toys for those in our community that need a little help this Christmas. I bought $200 worth of toys and donated them to them.
I stopped giving to United Way years ago when I discovered how leftest they were and although I am not a regular donator to the SA I will never donate in the future.
There was absolutely no need for the SA to enter into discussions on race and yet they did so now they must own it.
