About a month ago the Walmart site went haywire. Can't see half of it at all, can't order anything. Admittedly I'm a dinosaur, running XT-Pro, but no other sites I order from are broken like this.
Being mobility handicapped, online ordering is very important for me. Not to mention that the nearest store is an hour away, and last time I was there it was OOS on over half the items on my list.
Anybody know anything?
Do you mean XP Pro? If not, I’d love to see how you can run a graphical browser on an XT (Intel 8088), even a pro version.
Just checked and it’s working for me.
Working fine for me too - what browser are you using?
Perhaps it has web graphics or pop-ups that your old operating system can’t support.
I went there a few hours ago and about lost my sh*t, tripping over the mostly morbidly obese white people and perfectly healthy black people clogging up the aisles in their mobility scooters.
I'd like to hijack this thread into a discussion of my absolute disgust of stores that provide mobility scooters. None of them are being used by people who actually need them.
If a store provides mobility scooters, I don't want to shop there.
Literally, Walmart has turned in to nothing but "dodge mobility scooters"
Wait? Are we talking about on-line shopping? I don't know anymore.
pfft... why with EGA... DUH! ;)
I just placed an order yesterday (Nov. 10, early in the morning) and most of my items were delivered this afternoon (Nov. 11). Still got one item coming in next week from a third party vendor. I also had a shipping order on Nov. 2 and everything was delivered on the 4th and 5th. I had an online order that was picked up on Oct. 31.
Didn’t have any problem with any of those orders. I always have a few items out of stock in a pickup order because the family member that picks it up for me can only do it on the weekend and there’s always a crowd in the store on the weekend.
Chad, I think it’s time you ordered a new computer from Walmart. :)
I had such a PC-XT. I was cheap, though, getting the greyscale EGA with a hercules level mono monitor (paper white). 10 Mhz with 640K, so I guess that counts as a Pro. I ran Delphi, GEnie, Compuserve, AOL and Prodigy on it. The oldest macine I ran a browser on was a fully decked out MacIIx (68030 with PMMU) with 9 MB RAM (HUGE at one time), 80 MB SCSI HD and a 33.6K Motorola modem. It would have been $8,000 new. I bought it in 1996 for $10. It ran Netscape . . . S-L-O-W-L-Y.
I quit ordering from Walmart after they started charging. I found the same products, some cheaper, at Walmart. I do order the OTC items I get from Medicare that I don’t pay for from Walmart, but that’s it. I’ve never ordered groceries from there.
It works fine. They have a 4 foot inflatable Santa on sale for $14.95 by the way. Nothing says Christmas like cheap Chinese made inflatables.
XP Pro... I liked that O/S.
I would bet it’s a browser compatibility issue. The walmart site maybe ditched support for legacy browsers. If so, that may be a full stop. I don’t know that XP Pro will sort a browser current enough, if a given site doesn’t have legacy code.
That’s as far down the road as I can take you; I finally took my old XP Pro 64-bit laptop and made it an Ubuntu box so it could support a modern browser (Brave).
If you need XP on your computer, your alternate plan could be doing the online shopping on a not-too-old SmartPhone. Lots of folks have upgraded and have stuff laying around unused that’s 4-6 years old, but fully functional. You can often find them being given away on trashnothing or freecycle. I’m still using a Samsung S6, and it’s A-OK with up-to-date browsers.
Second Alternate might be to get a mid-grade tablet or Chromebook. There’s more screen real estate and an actual keyboard, plus USB for connecting full-sized keyboard and wireless mouse. Check trashnothing for used ones in decent shape.
You probably need to upgrade your browser.
You may have difficulty in finding an XP browser that will work with the newer html coding.
Do those mobility scooters have warning horns or beepers?
It’s been a while since I’ve seen one in my area stores.
Some of them can go surprisingly fast. Too fast for practical use around crowds of other shoppers.
Especially the ones that move around, “dance” and squirm while shouting “ho ho ho” through tinny speakers. It sure makes me want to go to the stores to enjoy these holiday marvels.
It’s nard to believe, but we used to collect our own pine cones and pine boughs in the forest and sing our own carols.
You better upgrade Shalmaneser.
It works fine for me, I’ve used it recently, no issues whatsoever. You probably got some specific changes on your computer, your browser, etc.
I cured my pal's XP Pro box and my Macbook OS X Lion with this browser.
