More than 470,000 people are without power in Massachusetts Wednesday morning as a nor’easter pounded the region with fierce winds and heavy flooding.
The state’s outage map shows a whopping 473,200 people without power as of 8:20 a.m.
Wind gusts reached 97 mph at the height of the storm — and although the wind is expected to die down as the morning progresses, gusts still reached around 70 mph on the outer Cape early Wednesday, NBC 10 Boston reported.
About half of the town of Chatham was left without power Wednesday morning as the storm tore down trees and branches, according to the report.

Big whoop...it’ll be on in a couple days. It’s not like it’s 20 below.
They need windmills.
Global warming. Trump’s fault.
Should’ve put those wind turbines out on Nantucket Sound.
And electric cars.
You have to use the new terminology. Global Climate Change is much more flexible than Global Cooling or Global Warming. It doesn't matter if it is hot or cold. Whatever the weather happens to be you can always blame it on Global Climate Change.
At least they won’t have to watch CNN for a few hours.
Eversource plans on building a huge windfarm with wind mills in excess of 700’ in height in Nantucket Sound.
It will crush the local fishing industry in MA & RI. There is a big squid fishery in the area. These are Salt of earth types who have been fishermen for generations.
Wind gusts reached 97 mph at the height of the storm, Gee if they only had offshore Wind Mills, think of all the power that would of been generated........
Better get used to it the way they are dicking around with energy sources. Embrace the suck.
In Calif you will soon not be able to buy a generator for emergencies like this. You will sit in the dark while the enlighten politicians have their lights on.
No problem…practice for GND…
They should have a surplus of power. Haven’t they got any windmills?
I grew up in Chatham.
I guarantee that the bar at the Chatham Squire was full at the height of the storm.
Just sayin’.
I would have been there. Nothing better than riding out a wicked northeaster in a dive bar.
that is fun...
did that in o.c. maryland numerous times... 😁...
It’s mainly Cape Cod...and Marta’s Vineyard...and Nantucket. I wonder if Osama Obama or John Friggin Kerry is without power.
