Three BART passengers were found dead this week, and in all cases drug overdoses are the suspected cause of death, BART police said. This news comes as accidental overdose deaths skyrocket across the Bay Area and the country.
BART police responded to a report of an unresponsive male with no pulse on a Berryessa-bound train held at the Fremont Station on Monday, according to the BART police log. Officers performed chest compressions and administered two doses of Narcan, a medicine use to prevent overdose deaths, with negative results, the BART police log reported.
Paramedics also arrived on scene and performed life-saving measures but were unable to revive the male.
The same day, an adult male was found unresponsive and not breathing at the Daly City Station, BART police said. Life-saving measures were also performed, and the man was ultimately pronounced dead, BART police said.
The following day, BART police said workers found an adult male passenger on a train at the Pleasant Hill station who was found unresponsive and with no pulse, according to the BART police log. The man didn't respond to either Narcan or life-saving measures by paramedics.
Based on the preliminary investigations in all three incidents, it is believed the subjects may have died from overdoses, BART police reported. No foul play is suspected in any of the incidents. ***
San Francisco has seen a dramatic increase in overdose deaths in recent years, with 260 overdose deaths in 2018 and 712 in 2020, marking a 174% increase. The synthetic opioid fentanyl is driving the increase, and the number of accidental overdose deaths tied to fentanyl went up 483% from 2018 to 2020.

Does Narcan work with something as potent as Fentanyl? Why bother? The user is/was in no pain and doesn’t care anyway.
