The oldest living former president turns 97 on Oct. 1, and the Atlanta-based Carter Center on Friday asked fans to submit birthday wishes and photos to the Georgia native ahead of his big day.

Jimmy, thanx for the most expensive mortgage rate ever, back in the 70’s. Hope you wear some light clothing where you’re going.

I wouldn’t recommend sneaking up from behind and surprising him.

He was not exactly my favorite president but happy birthday. I saw a recent picture of him and he looked quite frail.

Jimmy, I will always be thankful that the term “stagflation” came to be known, because of you.

Happy birthday, Mr. Carter. To the president who taught me in my childhood everything I need to know about foreign policy.

I remember freezing to death in the college library in the middle of winter b/c Carter has some mandate that indoor heating could only be set at 68 degrees.
Also remember gas lines. If I wanted to drive the family car, I had to go get gas - which was only available even or odd (according to license plate, IIRC). And even then the lines were very very long.
Lines to buy gas got so long that people would sometimes wait in shifts: One person doing four or five hours then tagging out for another to wait hours more before reaching the front of the line.
Carter blamed Americans:
With long gas lines across the country, sky-high inflation, and rising unemployment, Carter decided to blame Americans for the country’s woes.
“The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation,”
That's my memory of Carter and his legacy, which Biden is trying to live up to.
Reagan came and changed all of that Thank God.

I remember swapping license plates odd/even numbers just so we could fill up the gas tanks.

I think we should all send him a card. “Congrats, great rabbit hunter... you are no longer the most incompetent ineffectual President in our nations history.”

I feel happy for President carter ever since Obama became President. President carter lives long enough to see himself dethroned as the worst president in us history.
