US Coast Guard spots Chinese warships off Alaska Pentagon site says an advanced destroyer among four vessels seen near the Aleutian Islands last month Photos of ships taken down from site just hours after they were posted
Four Chinese warships, including one of its most advanced destroyers, were spotted sailing in the waters off Alaska late last month as the Chinese navy steadily expands its range, according to photos posted on a Pentagon information service.
The photos taken by the US Coast Guard showed the four Chinese naval vessels shadowed by two US Coast Guard cutters in international waters within the US’ exclusive economic zone in the Aleutian Islands on August 29 and August 30, according to the Defence Visual Information Distribution Service.
According to the photo captions, the US and Chinese vessels had “safe and professional” interactions and their verbal communications were in accordance with international standards, including the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea, a non-legally binding agreement to prevent clashes at sea.

They’re just surveying their new colonies. C’mon man.
Pei-Ping.
They did just say we’d find them on our doorstep. They’re testing the waters, just as we’ve been doing to them. Next stop: Guam or Hawaii.
The Russians also like to play there.
I hope they don’t all dock and get off on the same side of the island. it might flip over and kill everyone.
Did they leave their fishing fleet in home waters?
They won’t stay long for lack of logistical support.
They have no friends nor allies, even in the Pacific.
We should be sending, “jump and defect”, through electronic, morse and flag signalling...lol.
The Coast Guard may have “spotted” them, but if that was the first warning the US had that they were approaching, then something is seriously wrong. We have satellites whose sole purpose is to watch “enemy” forces. Let’s hope those ships were shadowed by US subs.
Sink them.
“Advanced destroyer”?
Maybe by their standards.
What makes you think it was the first warning. According to the article the Japanese have been tracking them through their waters on the way to Alaska.
Can they *prove* it? How do we know this isn’t more Russian disinformation? /s
Wait until the chicom fishing vessels vacuum up the seafood in the Alaskan waters.
“According to the article the Japanese have been tracking them through their waters on the way to Alaska.”
I have a problem (pet peeve?) about the way titles are written. In my opinion, the title was misleading, as are most. Having had to title 54 articles, I was careful to give the reader a taste of what they were going to read and to not mislead readers into reading something they otherwise have no interest in. If I recall correctly, the editor retitled every article even though my title met the space constraints. I had people phone me to say, “You know, I almost missed your article because I didn’t recognize what it was about.”
Not really different than the USSR trawlers which ran along our coast soaking up ELINT.
And we get much more from our ELINT capabilities against them then they get from us.
Not necessary if they are using underwater fishing drones the surface ships are protecting.
If they occupied Guam, we wouldn’t resist.
A flotilla for President Retard
