Watermelons are 92% water, which makes them excellent for helping to maintain hydration. They are nutrient-dense, packed with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants, while containing only about 40 calories a cup. They are an excellent source of vitamin C and contain other vitamins, such as A, B6, and B1, and minerals like potassium and magnesium. One of their amino acids is citrulline, and they contain more lycopene, an antioxidant that may reduce the risk of cancer, than any other fruit or vegetable. They are free of fat, sodium, and cholesterol. They are a heart-healthy food and assist in weight management.
We bought a "Sugar Baby" yesterday at Beck's Harvest House in Green Bluff, Washington. They got their first new 2021 crop of watermelons in about two weeks ago from the Pasco area and have seven varieties for sale. It might be a challenge finding all 1,200 varieties to sample.

Watermelon Ice Cream
Juice from half a small watermelon, passed through a real fine sieve or cheesecloth (there must be NO seeds or solids!!) should be about 3 or 4 cups
1 and 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup sugar
Mix and run that through your ice cream maker
mmMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm...

In Southern California during the 1950’s and most of the ‘60’s, there were only two varieties of watermelon available—the dark-green Klondike, which became available in the early summer, and the striped Rattlesnake, which appeared in the late summer. We thought the Rattlesnakes tasted somewhat better.

Friendly’s makes something called a Wattamelon(spelled that way on purpose)roll. I’ve never tried it, but it looks delicious.

Sweeter than red but with no lycopene, the yellow variety was thought to have been grown before the red variety in Africa.

From seeds from the hybrid parent stock, which are, of course, seeded.
Kind of like how a mule is sterile.

Either way, it’s got to go.
