Time to spotlight our watermelons, AKA environmentalists: Green on the outside, red inside.

500 guests, 200 “staff.” Wonder who’s paying, or will there be a cover charge? (Also wonder how much the “staff” will be paid, and will they be union?)

Somebody ping me when it's National Sardine Day.

I love my sardines...they are a nutritional powerhouse and they taste so good (right out of the tin with a toothpick).

I second the national sardine day. Prefer them on woven wheat crackers to from a toothpick though. A can of smoked oysters and a can of sardines with woven wheat crackers and some Tabasco and I have a meal.

Jeffrey Fournier’s Watermelon “Steak”
This sweet-savory watermelon recipe from New Hampshire chef Jeff Fournier is among the delicious recipes from season four of Weekends with Yankee.

Bought first seedless watermelon to try. Not nearly as tasty as the usual. Tiny black seeds and much smaller than the usual. Won’t get another.

I’m with you. Seeds are a small problem to get that real watermelon flavor.

Yep! I love watermelon...snack on it frequently. The texture, taste is just wonderful! My mother use to put salt on it, I cringed until I tried!

Back in the 80s, while stationed there, we went to a lake in the deep woods. There was a sign on what wasn’t allowed. It started off like, no: glass bottles; nudidity, public drinking of alcohol...etc, etc. The last thing on the list, in capital bold letters was...AND NO WATERMELONS!

I couldnt understand that one bit.

That’s right, “light sprinkle”. Amazing how it enhances the flavor....which if used correctly is what salt does.

Watermelons are 92% water, which makes them excellent for
helping to maintain hydration.

**********

Yep we couldn’t have them late evening as a kid growing up.
But was there mid afternoon.
