DuckDuckGo has joined the Cancel Culture Movement
Vanity | 23 July @021 | Chad C. Mulligan

Three times in the last two days I've searched for sites of small businesses that supply parts and services to us old time firearms collectors. Three times I've come up empty, no matter how I vary my search terms.

DDG is actually an overlay on top of Bing. Looks like Bing has gone hyper-woke.

Anybody have another option that I can run on my old XT-Pro / Firefox 52 platform?

PLEASE, do NOT tell me to "go Linux". My one foray into that maelstrom was a disaster that took days to recover from.

Nor will I go to any of the later Windows revns. My hardware will not support them.

Huh? Seems like you are mixing two issues. Operating system and search engine results. Please share your search terms with me (by FRmail if you like). I will look into search results.

When you run a search, the site you navigate to , Google, bing, etc, does the search. The machine you run to access the site is irrelevant.

Moved to “Brave” for my browser quite a while back. So far so good. Seems “cleaner” than the others. Try it out. “Startpage” seems like its still okay for searches.

I use DDG as my primary search/default search engine. But I gotta say, it's really not as good as google in some instances. Google sucks, they manipulate the results on everything. But for some things, it really is the gold standard. On other things, it is worthless manipulative crap.

Too bad.

Can't get rid of Firefox without making matters worse.

Right - I was confusing browser and search engine. Thanks!

BINGO!!!! Startpage found all three! Changing over now.

Don’t tell anybody, but I think I could use a Schoolhouse Rock kind of workshop for basic computer terms and uses.
I’ve learned a lot over the last 20 something years, but mainly just by trial and error, not by formula.
I was still using WEBTV when MonicaGate blew out.

If you can dump Firefox, do it. I do a disk clean every start up and system mechanic as well. I used to have 800+ items needing cleaned out with system mech. Now with “brave” for the browser only about 80 minor items. Much more satisfied. 😊

I just tried DDG and here are few of the dozens of hits I got:

https://www.ima-usa.com/collections/antique-gun-parts/
https://www.antiquegunparts.com/
https://www.partsforantiqueguns.com/
https://www.joesalter.com/category/Parts-and-Accessories

Your ISP can see every search query, so try using a VPN. There are many that offer free trials. Make sure you always have https enabled, such as HTTPSeverywhere. And make sure you use secure DNS if possible. It's configurable in newer versions of firefox. Make sure you don't have parental controls enabled. Your ISP might be doing that themselves. Again, a VPN solves that problem.

But really you need to update your browser. You are using an antique. Newer versions of firefox have more privacy and security features available.

I’ve been using Qwant for the past several years. Haven’t noticed any censorship, yet.

I repeat - I cannot dump Firefox without also dumping XT-Pro, which I cannot do due to hardware limitations. I'm too poor to be chasing new hardware and O/S the way you millenials can. Again thanks to the poster who suggested Startpage.

I just visited 'iseek.com' did a search on 'gun parts' and came up with some excellent results.

FUN FACT: I actually purchased the domain iseek.com in the early days of the Internet, and these folks bought it from me for just enough to finish my 3 sons' last couple of years of undergrad studies.

It would have been touch-and-go if that opportunity had not come along.
