CNN — Mississippi's attorney general told the Supreme Court on Thursday that Roe v. Wade was "egregiously wrong" and should be overturned as she urged the justices to allow a controversial law that bars most abortions after 15 weeks to go into effect.
"The conclusion that abortion is a constitutional right has no basis in text, structure, history, or tradition" state Attorney General Lynn Fitch told the justices in a new brief, launching the opening salvo in the most important abortion-related dispute the court has heard in decades.
Fitch said that the case for overruling Roe is "overwhelming."
Roe v. Wade is the 1973 landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion nationwide prior to viability, which can occur at around 24 weeks of pregnancy.

The justices deliberated for months whether to take up the Mississippi dispute, finally announcing their decision last spring and sending shock waves to groups supporting abortion rights who are fearful that the conservative majority -- bolstered with three of President Donald Trump's appointees -- will upend long-established constitutional protections for access to abortion.
Oral arguments will likely be heard in the late fall or early winter with a decision expected by next June in advance of the midterm elections.

The idea that one person can own another person has been overturned before.
It can happen again.
Just set your watch for heads exploding!
Coast to Coast Chicken Littles.
"You have no standing"
That would be odd, considering Mississippi is the defendant.
The only reason for them to Chicken Little it is if they don’t trust their state legislatures (which is where the question Constitutionally belongs).
If it’s so obviously right to allow abortion, why is it a problem to have the correct branch of government legalize it? And if the citizens of different states feel differently about the issue, is that not their right?
Same with gun control issues. Stop asking the supreme court if they can read the 2nd amendment. They are a bunch of buffoons. Just nullify all federal gun law at the state level and make it a felony in the state to attempt to enforce federal guns laws.
In a nutshell it's time for the states to re assert the power that has always rightfully belonged to the states or the people. Tell the federal government to go to hell.
Unfortunately, saying the Supreme Court has a “conservative majority” is like liberal arts degree holder saying he has an education.
Zero in MO. The one remaining in St Louis that changed their name and location to try and go stealth was finally closed down so they moves just across the river to IL.
1973 was a pretty horrible year. It was the year that abortion was foisted on every state and territory and the APA removed homosexuality as a psych disorder in the DSM. The left made massive inroads in that single year.
Re: Mississippi Asks SCOTUS to Overturn Roe v. Wade
SCOTUS this coming Monday morning: “Okay. Done deal. Overturned.”
Then I woke up.
Sure enough. The Court will rule that Mississippi has no standing to defend itself. Point being: this matter has already been decided ... the only thing left to do is go through the motions. (Not a certainty; just a prediction.)
Praying.
Whether you are pro or anti abortion is is not and never should have been a Federal issue. It is a States rights issue. If “Blue” states want to butcher their babies, so be it. If “Red” states choose not to, so be it.
There is nothing in the constitution giving the Federal government power over those decisions.
Democrats need to read the 10th amendment more carefully.
That could be a factor on vote turnout for both sides.
Prediction: Both Caving-Now Kavanaugh and Amy Phony Barrett will vote against Mississippi’s statute.
something in my gut just told me the outcome of this case is going to be a BIG spiritual trigger of sorts UNKNOWN.
Hell yeah……..
It makes the liberals’ heads explode to hear that slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person (yes, I know that it was a negotiated deal to reduce the power of the slave states), but they have nor problem at all knowing that an unborn baby doesn’t even count as a person and has less rights than a slave.
Hear, hear…+1
