New and Used Car Prices Soar Due to Microchip Shortage
The Western Journal ^ | July 10, 2021 at 2:27pm | Jack Davis

A microchip shortage is translating to higher car prices across America.

CBS reported that the average price of a new car has topped $40,000 and that used car prices have risen nearly 30 percent due to the shortage.

Lansing, Michigan, resident Heather Lyons knows that firsthand.

In looking to buy a replacement for a totaled car, she said she will end up paying more to get less, according to WILX-TV.

“It really is bad. My car payment last time for a decent vehicle was something I could afford and this time it’s going to be a worse vehicle for more than I was paying before,” Lyons said.

She said she is paying $4,000 more than she did for a similar car a year ago.

Dealers admit prices are high.

As some people have often noted on an entirely different issue, we ‘should have picked our own damn cotton’.

So are the Cadillac converter thieves going to change to stealing your car’s computer?

Maybe Eric Braden has some surplus one parked somewhere he’d let go reasonably?

Fun show. Even non field tactician me, some of what they did was beyond idiotic. The one where they drive captured tiger (Sherman) into the compound and blast things point blank with the main gun and turn around drive out, no problem at all.

I bought the DVDS, they were cheap.

Wasn’t there a guy in the White House, circa 2017-2020, that saw issue with our dependency on the Chinese and other countries for such thing?

And when he tried to do something about it, all he did was get pushback from the scumbags in a Congress and the Chamber of Commerce?

Is it true the car manufacturers are dependent on one chip maker in Taiwan for these car chips?
Why haven’t others gotten into the business or the car manufacturers themselves gotten together and built their own plant.

Henry Ford I and Hank The Deuce would have.

Its not a question of that. It’s a question of inventory. There isn’t enough of new or used.

Yes the chip shortage is a YUGE deal

One thing that isn’t discussed is the damage Cash for Clunkers did to the used car market.

A friend used to flip cars. Buy them at auction, get them running and sell them. Did it as a side hustle and did well. Soetero showed up, rigged the game for the car makers and unions, and my friend was looking for another side hustle. His operation was done in a month.

Why do you want a car. They burn fossil fuel and destroy the planet. Abandon your white privilege and take public transport.

My daughter bought a car from a buddy of mine a couple months ago. He sold it for trade in value which got her a car with $14,000 retail value for $9,000.

She’s looking at a few hundred more than she expected for her 18 year old car that runs great.

Perfect timing.

“Then why is there such a shortage?”

Vehicle manufacturers slowed their purchases last year and now are at the back of the line.

I’ve got three brand new 2020 F150’s that we bought for a work project just before the stupid virus. We haven’t hired anyone for them and they are just sitting in a parking lot.

They are leased so we can’t sell them and still plan to hire, maybe in late fall.

We could make a fortune on them.

We had a VW Passat 2005 that sat in our driveway for many years little used as it had some type of trans problem. Fix may have been simple but we were too dang busy to deal with this car. We spent 2K getting it in shape a couple years back and took good care of it over the years but was quite a “project” car.
One day a guy in a truck was checking it out I went outside and he inquired...long story short his brother the mechanic came over and bought it for 1K. We were ECSTATIC!! They were from CA & I guess these cars are popular there. Greek guys. We have four cars now in the driveway. We rotate fixing when need. Average age is 15-20 years.
