Gov. Greg Abbott has signed Texas’ “constitutional carry” legislation, allowing Texans over age 21 to openly carry handguns in public without a license as of Sept. 1.

This is a CONSTITUTIONAL carry law, not an open carry law.

It’s both. Permits are optional come 9/1. No longer required. You can still get one if you want it for reciprocity purposes.

Before the permitless carry law was signed, Texans generally needed to be licensed to carry handguns openly or concealed. Applicants had to submit fingerprints, complete four to six hours of training, and pass a written exam and a shooting proficiency test. Texas does not require a license to openly carry a rifle in public.
Good on Abbott. They might lay low for a while, but within a week or two, the trolls will be back, pushing to primary Abbott so TX can have a dem governor.
