2021 has left the pressure sensitive label industry in complete and utter chaos.
Shipping costs and freight rates are soaring. Soaring freight rates, cargo container shortages, and port congestion have driven up shipping costs. Lead times have extended so far out, they are unknown.
A rising need for pulp and paper has far exceeded supply and demand, escalating raw material costs. Packaging supplies like sealing tape, stretch film, and ribbon are seeing price hikes to the moon.
We know these disruptions mean big problems for the label industry, but what do they really mean for everyday people?
Well, someone has to pay when the cost of goods increases. Up until now, manufacturers and suppliers have been absorbing these additional prices. But they can’t anymore. Now those rising prices are making their way to you and your wallet.
Drawbacks with freight means that need-to-buy items you’re looking for will either be low in stock or completely unavailable. The wait time for shipping for items you want will range anywhere from weeks to months. And there’s no end in sight.
Each leg of the supply chain has taken a massive blow, and the hits just keep coming.
There is.
However, while you can’t can in a pressure cooker, you can cook in a pressure canner.
If I want anything pressure cooked, I use my Instant pot, which I love.
I haven't really tried the recipes, because I just buy the low-carb tortillas off the shelf and I don't use them every day. I'm not diabetic, but the Dr. had advised restricting my carbs, until my triglycerides were back in line-which they are now.

I’ve noticed more Mexican brands and dollar store brands in the store.
As long as the seals are good, the meat is ok to eat. After 18 months, some of the nutrition may be decreasing a bit. Even 10 years is ok, but I personally try to rotate 3-6 years.
I have chicken that I canned in 2015 that got pushed to the back and overlooked, so I’m going to use that up in the next several months. I made a stove top stuffing casserole the other day and it was all good.
Oh man, I used to feel that way. Now I love it. It’s easier than anything else, and so tender—gives a new meaning to fast food. Ha.
👍
Please add me to your ping list.
Thanks.
I went to Lowes, then to Walmart. Neither had the items shown as available on line.
I bought the items on Amazon but had to wait two days
there's an understatement.
Please add me to your list.
You’re correct. Make your own starter. I’ve done that a couple times.
Thought so. Will do.
Not a GE but a Whirlpool. Good to know what the problem might be.

I thought the boiling time to prevent botulism was 10”....I’ve been doing that with my canned goods, home or bought, especially if the bought day is “out there” a bit....
It is, depending on your elevation.
However, the government safety recommendations are that just in case, boil the stuff for 20 mins.
I honestly never worry about it myself.
So far I’ve noticed shortages in water chestnuts and canned split pea soup.
Has anyone ever explained the great toilet paper panic of 2020?
