U.S. prosecutors this week put a price tag on damage to the U.S. Capitol from the Jan. 6 breach — $1.5 million so far — and for the first time are asking defendants to cover some of the bill in plea offers, prosecutors and defense lawyers said.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington cited the damage estimate Wednesday in court and in plea papers filed in the case of Paul Hodgkins, 38. The Tampa crane operator pleaded guilty to one felony count of obstructing an official proceeding of Congress and faces sentencing July 19 in Washington.
“Your client acknowledges that the riot that occurred on January 6, 2021, caused as of May 17, 2021, approximately $1,495,326.55 damage to the United States Capitol,” stated a plea agreement letter sent by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Sedky and signed by Hodgkins and his attorney in May.

There were BLM riots in Washington, DC last summer near the White House. Has anyone been charged with those?
Good one.
I agree- a couple of broken windows and a laptop? We were told damage estimates were ess than 10k for several months. Probably adding on the cost of the all the emergency construction / fencing and barricades and housing snd salary of the national guard for several months plus they are likely capitalizing the costs ofUS attorneys, FBI, therapy sessions for congress members, etc.
That’s three ice cream freezers for Nancy Pelosi.
What about BLM last summer when they were BURNING the city?
What about Congress pay from their own pockets for the damage done to this country by illegals, antifa, and blm?
Remember, a roll of paper towels at Gumment prices is about $985. If you want select-a-size add $648.
Best comment of the thread!
I have to say, while I was NOT happy about these idiots, the only “vandalism” I saw was windows busted in for entry (not even just for the fun of it). Don’t get me wrong, those windows are expensive. Many are stained and frosted glass, who knows how old and original.
Meanwhile, instead of pulling down statues they took selfies with them, and instead of spray-painting everything they slept underneath the giant murals.
Never mind the US flag carried in rather than burned.
It wasn’t a riot
1) Materials and labor.............................$2500
2) Fees for drawing up this list.....$1,497,500
LOL
A lot of the responses are exactly why we will continue to lose our country!
Instead of complaining, bail it out, fund raise it out etc.
That is exactly how BLM, ANTIFA etc. get away with all the things they do...they have the financial backing of the liberal lawyers and MONEY.
What do we do? Sit on our butts, wallets, etc. and let our people hang.
Exactly, and when I brought this up a week or so ago I was drawn and quartered (rhetorically, of course..)
right 1.5 million LOL I guess when your multiply many times the honest prices of supplies and labor it could equal that.
You leave out the $1.4 million for the contractor (who hires a subcontractor to do if for $10,000) and the bureaucrat who takes the kickback to select the contractor.
FU, prosecutor!
Oops. I guess I don’t know the ropes
Covert infiltration. Someday they will own the place.
Bull stuff.
How much are the anarchist’s being charged?
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Nothing...
Why would just ONE suspect be required to assess damages that are obviously well beyond any damages for which he personally could be responsible? And if such a suspect does agree to affirm this assessment, how is he qualified to do so? Is he an expert on broken doors and windows? Have any Antifa or BLM rioters ever been held personally liable for looting and burning and injuries done by all the rioters at a given riot? Have any such rioters ever previously been used to verify damages/assess the value of damaged goods for which others will be charged?
Sounds like a rather peculiar requirement to stick in a plea deal.
