Study suggests climate change was killing people 13,000 years ago Scientists say battle wounds mean people were fighting over resources

"Territorial and environmental pressures triggered by climate changes are most probably responsible for these frequent conflicts between what appears to be culturally distinct Nile Valley semi-sedentary hunter-fisher-gatherers groups," the study said.

The cemetery holds the remains of 61 people, and it was excavated in the 1960s.

"Over 100 previously undocumented healed and unhealed lesions were identified on both new and/or previously identified victims, including several embedded lithic artefacts. Most trauma appears to be the result of projectile weapons and new analyses confirm for the first time the repetitive nature of the interpersonal acts of violence," the study found.

Red River goes pretty far north heh.

Here in Northern Alberta on the western side, the land is very fertile, but the growing season isn’t real long. If the cooling trends keep happening, it’ll shorten that even more. Yet there are still evil people talking about ways to block out the sun and or other equally stupid ideas to screw us over.

At one point the entire earth was green, then a flood, then ice, then here we are now. Would it be so bad to be green again?

Friggin' ancient AR-15s no doubt. Dual horsepower chariots amping up the climate?

I don't think they had even invented HUVs (Horse Utility Vehicles) 13,000 years ago.

Most put the domestication of the horse at about 6-7,000 years ago.

You are correct, but there was a period when its believed that wars were non-existent and that was in the time after the ice age/s when temperatures warmed, growing seasons were much longer and higher in elevation and resources were abundant...Of course population was less due to tumult of the change—the period can be marked with those corpulent goddess figures showing a very robust female form....that period...sort of beyond the mists of time is one that is fasincinating and some would say, a period that we have a collective amensia about. “Territorial and environmental pressures triggered by climate changes are most probably responsible for these frequent conflicts between what appears to be culturally distinct Nile Valley semi-sedentary hunter-fisher-gatherers groups,” the study said.”

I strongly recommend anyone believing things like this read the book “Motel of the Mysteries.”

Amazon uses this description: “It is the year 4022; all of the ancient country of USA has been buried under many feet of detritus from a catastrophe that occurred back in 1985. Imagine, then, the excitement that Howard Carson, an amateur archeologist at best, experienced when in crossing the perimeter of an abandoned excavation site he felt the ground give way beneath him and found himself at the bottom of a shaft, which, judging from the DO NOT DISTURB sign hanging from an archaic doorknob, was clearly the entrance to a still-sealed burial chamber. Carson’s incredible discoveries, including the remains of two bodies, one of then on a ceremonial bed facing an altar that appeared to be a means of communicating with the Gods and the other lying in a porcelain sarcophagus in the Inner Chamber, permitted him to piece together the whole fabric of that extraordinary civilization.”

The book describes how archeologists analyze the remnants of a motel. “The ceremonial bed facing an altar that appeared to be a means of communicating with the Gods” is a standard motel bed and the altar is the toilet. “the other lying in a porcelain sarcophagus in the Inner Chamber” is a person lying in the bathtub.

Very humorous reading that exposes how wrong archeologists can be.

You Sir, are full of garbage! Everyone knows that before the evil Europeans came (spit be upon them) that it was all sunflowers, rainbows, and man at harmony with nature. I was told that even a great elk would know when to wander into a village and lay down and sacrifice so that no violence would need to be committed to feed the people. People of other tribes and regions would get together occasionally and play sports and other games of intellect to improve themselves and their relationships with one another. It was a blissful time of love and peace everywhere. Then the evil white man ruined it!

LOL, there’s people out there who would actually believe that crap.

In Alberta in just one day the Cree killed over 900 Blackfoot. White man didn’t do that. White man also didn’t push the buffalo off the cliffs by the entire herd. The waste was immense. I could go on, but I’m sure people get the idea.

Also, the Indians weren’t even here first, so there’s that as well.

I'm glad you said that! Otherwise, I'd have been forced to!

Thanks!

Another gem! And in the Nile Valley, no less, where climate change is an eon-long thing! Not like the weather we used to actually have.

Actually they have used mostly renewables in the ancient times. Wind, water, biomass, Sun.

It was the arrival of industrial age, when fossil fuels started to play major rule.

Rule of the thumb - the more advanced society, the more fossil fuels! Even now, when we are regressing. Less fossil fuels, more regression.

Perhaps it is because of a stone age culture.

Consider.. How does a civilized person obtain social standing among their peers? Hard work, businesses, MONEY! Lots of money!

Now, how does a stone age man obtain social standing among his tribe? By being a great warrior.

How does he become a great warrior? By having enemies to kill and showing prowess on the battlefield.
He can prove his warrior ability by stealing and enemy’s weapon, horse, touching an enemy in battle.

In single combat he shows his prowess by killing and scalping his enemy, the scalp proving he did it.

He may also make war on his enemy’s woman and kids as the scalps of such proved hi actually, by stealth, got inside the camp and even into the lodge, and his proof could be a child’s scalp.
Chief Four Bears of the Mandan went off on a one man war raid, killed and scalped two Ojibway women getting water and got away with it. It was considered a great victory, even though it shocked Catlin.

Just after the Little Big Horn, Gen Crook attacked a Cheyenne camp and found items from the 7th inside. He also found a sack full of children’s scalps. The Shoshone scouts recognized those children’s scalps as from their own tribe and set up a weeping and wailing all night long.

After the tribes were finally defeated and placed on reservations, they had no way to increase their social standing. They were completely out of their comfort zone of socially moving up in the tribe.

In the olden days they would go off on their own, starve themselves until they had a hallucination and took from it their guidance for the future.

By the 1880s, the tribes had found the White Man had all the visions and dreams captured in a bottle, and for a few pelts they could buy a bottle to have plenty of visions and dreams.

And 13,000 years ago the European was probably the same.

“Motel of the Mysteries.”

I read that fifty years ago! And I agree as to how some common item can be misinterpreted.

The most common reason for fighting was one group of people wanting to take by force the fruits of other peoples labors or the rightful possessions of others.
