Pennsylvania voters approved two ballot questions that sought to restrict the emergency powers of the governor, making the state the first in the nation to rein in a governor’s authority under a disaster declaration.
At stake was the possible future of the COVID-19 disaster declaration issued by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf on March 6, 2020.
Republican House Speaker Bryan Cutler of Lancaster County and Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff of Centre County, in a written statement, said voters “resoundingly reaffirmed their desire for a government with strong checks and balances that works in their interests and not for its own power.”
The Republican leaders, referring to Wolf, said voters “rejected the mutation of emergency authority into unilateral, one-person control that seeks expediency over the rule of law.”
A spokeswoman for Wolf, Lyndsay Kensinger, said his office was unlikely to discuss the issue Wednesday because vote counts would likely not be complete.
The questions proposed two constitutional amendments.
One would give the General Assembly the ability to end or extend a declared emergency without the involvement of the governor, and the other would end a declared emergency after 21 days unless extended by the General Assembly.
As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, unofficial, incomplete returns on the state website had voting on the first question — the one concerning ending or extending a declaration — at 1,031,664 voting “yes” and 892,386 voting “no,” or a margin of 53.62% to 46.38%.

yep, encouraging
FYI
Hold on...they’ll find more mail in ballits in somebody’s trunk in Filthadelphia.
Amazing that 46% of the residents love authoritarian rule
Yep, it is encouraging that SOME Republicans, on SOME issues, in SOME places, under SOME circumstances actually stand up to Democrats!
Pittsburgh and Philly always vote for Demorats agendas. They’re dark strongholds over the rest of the state.
They're mostly concentrated in Philadelphia. Relocate that s'hole across the Delaware to NJ and Pennsylvania would be redder than Texas.

Pennsylvania Ping!

FReepmail me to be added to the list.
Actually the philly count against is 67.06% (no) to 32.94% (yes) which makes there not enough voters who participated to actually change the result. Not enough dems voted against the two amendments.
you must include pittsburg, wilkes barre and centre county as well. Montco went 60-40 against. Also there is something wrong with the bucks county voting at 48.79% (yes) to 51.21% (no)
So people don’t want tyrants. Silver lining.
If it weren’t for Stockholm syndrome the Democrat Party wouldn’t exist.
I’d love to see if conforms with Biden areas.
We need something like this in Illinois. I’m feeling optimistic after Lard Butt’s UNfair Tax hike scheme failed miserably.
